Foreword
As a college football player, I always knew the importance of a structured strength and conditioning program to maximize my performance. When I shifted my athletic career to mixed martial arts, I knew that having a lengthy history of strength and conditioning along with my skills was going to be an X factor in competing with the best in the UFC Heavyweight Division. I worked with Coach Loren Landow while I was preparing for the NFL draft and it was a no brainer to have him as one of my coaches for my MMA career.
It is important for all martial artists to best prepare their bodies for battle. The biggest part of being prepared for competition is having a full and comprehensive plan that accounts for all the training sessions martial artists have during a training week and making sure that overtraining is avoided. Many times, athletes implement strength and conditioning without any direction and assume that because they are doing work or getting tired that it will help them for competition. I have seen athletes sabotage their own performance first hand. Whether it was ridiculous workouts or not understanding that, in many cases, less is more, especially while tapering for competition. Coach Landow always seems to implement speed, agility, strength, power, and conditioning into my program seamlessly, while also always having me in a position that my taper was correct, and I felt amazing going into competition. I think you will find in this book that Loren Landow takes a leave no stone unturned approach and his methods always had me ready the night of the fight!
Whether you are a recreational athlete or an elite-level competitor, you can benefit from the structured plan laid out in this book, but you must do the work and be committed to your own success!

Acknowledgments
This book would not have been possible without many key individuals. Brendan Schaub, who was the genesis to my strength coach role for MMA and martial artists, trusted me to prepare him for his career in mixed martial arts and introduced me to many coaches who believed in my abilities; Trevor Whitman, Leister Bowling, Amal Easton, these men allowed me into their training centers and trusted me to be part of their teams, and I will always be indebted to them. To the coaches I have met along the way and shared and learned from; Rener Gracie, Tony Jefferies, Christian Allen, Marc Montoya, Duane Ludwig, Vinnie Lopez, and Eric Telly. All these coaches, we have shared corners in competition and spent time on the road across the world in quest for victory for our athletes, I am truly honored!
Many athletes took a gamble with me preparing them early in my career as a performance coach with martial artists, Brendan Schaub, Shane Carwin, Nate Marquardt, Eliot Marshall, Cody Donavan, Chaun Simms, Jared Hammon, Josh Copeland, Damico Rogers, Todd Duffee, and Justin Wren.
And thank you to the many athletes who continue to trust me in preparation of their career in martial arts; Neil Magny, Brandon Thatch, Drew Dober, Tony Simms, TJ Dillashaw, Danny Castillo, Cat Zingano, Donald Cerrone, Jarred Mercado, Peter Straub, Bojan Velickovic, Dimitri Veal, Chris Camozzi, Brain Camozzi, Josh Cavan, Bobby Lashley, Dustin Jacoby, Grace Cleveland, Brittany Boone, Brian Foster, Dustin Jacoby, Ian Heinisch, Sid Bice, Marcus Edwards, Jordan Titoni, Randy Rowland, and Brian Rogers.
Thank you to all the models who helped with capturing the exercises in this book: Josh Cavan, Brittany Boone, Grance Cleveland, Eric Bach and special thanks to Whitney Tirrell, who not only served as a model, but put in the time and effort for photo selection and organization of the book, and was more help than she will ever know. And also thank you to Rebecca Simms for assisting with the chapter on recovery and nutrition and Kim Constantainesco for the hours spent on the editing process during this journey!
Thank you to my family. My wife, Michelle, and my beautiful daughters Taylor and Morgan for all the support and the understanding of my time commitment to my craft, I love you all so very much!
