Preface
Advanced Italian Step-by-Step is a progressive program for mastering the Italian language. It is written for intermediate and advanced learners. It continues to teach the grammar and conversation in a logical order so that the learner can make progress learning the language.

If you just started studying Italian, or need a review, Easy Step-by-Step is where you should start. Once you are ready, Advanced Italian Step-by-Step is the next step to continue learning and develop your skills in the language. To take full advantage of the program, I advise you to make sure to do all the exercises as you progress through the book. By doing this, you will continue to reinforce what you have studied in the chapter you completed. Do not be in a rush. Make sure you have mastered the concepts you have studied so far before going to the next chapter.

You may want to do it several times before continuing to the next section. At the end of each chapter, I have created stories followed by the vocabulary, adjectives, and verbs that may be new to you. Reading the selections and answering the questions at the end will help you to increase your vocabulary and become more confident in the language. It will also show you how the Italian sentences are structured. Read these selections aloud to practice pronouncing the Italian words. Advanced Italian Step-by-Step is divided in three parts. Advanced Italian Step-by-Step is divided in three parts.

The first part reviews and expands the basic elements of the language. The second part covers a review and amplification of the basic verb tenses and their complete conjugations. The third part covers the conditional tenses and all the subjunctive moods. The book also includes the conjunctions and verbs followed by prepositions and a long list of verbs used throughout the book. The ample supply of exercises throughout the book will help you with the practical application of what has been covered in each unit. At the end, you will find a complete set of answer keys to help you check your accuracy.

I have enjoyed writing these books, and I always keep students in mind when I try to decide how and what to write. Italian grammar is complicated, vast, and takes real effort to master. If you take your time, are patient, and are consistent, the results will be very satisfactory. I am very proud of the students who study Italian. Even though I am a native speaker, I found it quite challenging to go through all the rules and the exceptions of the language when I was in school, so I completely understand the difficulties, the challenges, and the frustrations.

Accent Marks, Stress, and Intonation in Italian
Learning the accents and where to place the stress on a word is very important and makes it easier to know how to say words in Italian. The accent marks in Italian are added to a letter to differentiate it from another one with a similar sound.
