To expose an undergraduate student in engineering to this powerful method, most of the universities have included this subject in the undergraduate curriculum. This book contains materials applied to mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, and physics. It is written primarily for students and educators as a simple introduction to the practice of FEM analysis in engineering and physics. This book contains many 1D and 2D problems solved by the analytical method, by FEM using hand calculations, and by using ANSYS 11 academic teaching software and COMSOL. Results of all the methods have been compared. provides the engineering electromagnetics analysis. provides the engineering electromagnetics analysis.
The chapter gives an overview of electromagnetics theory and provides the finite element method analysis toward the electromagnetics, some models are demonstrated using the COMSOL multiphysics application and also ANSYS. The appendices are located on the companion disc in the back of the book. contains the color figures in the book. Sarhan M. MusaHouston, Texas
Thank you to Brain Gaskin and James Gaskin for their wonderful hearts and for being great American neighbors. It is my pleasure to acknowledge the outstanding help and support of the team at Mercury Learning and Information in preparing this book, especially from David Pallai. My gratitude to Dr. John Burghduff and Professor Mary Jane Ferguson for their support, understanding, and for being great friends. I would also like to thank Dr. Kendall Harris, my college dean, for his constant support. Finally, the book would never have seen the light of day if not for the constant support, love, and patience of my family.
Finite element analysis procedures are most commonly described using matrix and vector notations. These procedures eventually lead to the solutions of a large set of simultaneous equations. This chapter will be a good help in understanding the remaining chapters of the book.
