Introduction

Introduction: How We Got Here

Theres scientific consensus that the lives of children are going to be very difficult if we dont turn this ship around.

The world is going to end in 12 years if we dont address climate change This is the war. This is our World War II.

[S]torms, floods, fires, and droughts fueled by climate change are killing people all over the globe, our oceans are overflowing with trash and the sixth mass extinction is well underway, and the government does nothing!

These are just a snippet of the deluge of dire predictions with which we are inundated daily and have been for decades. The alarm and panic over climate change has steadily drummed into a crescendo in recent years until people can credibly claimwith fewer and fewer questioning their claims, sense, or even sanitythat the world will end in a decade if we do not immediately put in place policies that conveniently align with the political wish list of the most radical socialist politicians.

One morning, with hysterical soundbites from the Climate Strike marchers I had watched still ringing in my ears, I was thinking about this and the fact that with only a few notable exceptions, fewer and fewer people seem willing to push back against this transparent political agenda thinly disguised as environmental concern. But then I thought, perhaps I could do something to push back. In doing so, I was inspired by two people in particular who, given my extremely skeptical views of the climate catastrophe they are foretelling may be somewhat surprising, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and Greta Thunberg. The first two quotes listed are from the former, and the third one is from a climate protester who said she was inspired by the latter. Why would these two inspire me to write a book arguing against what they are saying?

That first leads to a disclaimer I have to state at the outset of this book as clearly as I can, and that is that I am not a scientist! And unlike Bill Nye, Al Gore, Barack Obama, Greta Thunberg, AOC, or many of the other self-appointed spokespeople for the planet and its climate, I am willing to admit that I am not in any way, shape, or form even remotely resembling a scientist. Even more pathetic, I am a registered nurse. While I do not believe that line of work is pathetic (I actually like what I do), what is pathetic is that the reason I am a registered nurse is that I wanted to be a doctor but did not perform well enough academically to come within light-years of medical school (i.e., my grades were not nearly good enough). So I settled for being a registered nurse instead. That being so, please know at the outset that I am not a scientist, and as such, have no credentials with which I can push back scientifically against the scientific consensus of climate change. So what am I doing writing this book?

First, it should be noted, and hopefully will become very apparent in this book, that the case against climate change is not a scientific one; it is a political one because the climate-change movement is a political movement that claims to have a scientific basis. If it were not a political movement, then politicians like AOC and others like her would not be leading it. It is very apparent, however, even by her own admissions and of those like her that this movement intends to bring about socialism on a global scale, all under the guise of saving the planet. Many of their proposals have nothing to do with the environment; rather, they simply enumerate socialist goals of a massive economic takeover and massive transfers of wealth and claim science as a catch-all validation for their demands. That is what this movement is all about. For that reason, while this book will certainly reference the science refuting the myth and the plethora of evidence undercutting it, if you want a deep dive into the scientific case against this movement, this book definitely makes no pretense of being that, because, in case I forgot to mention it, I am not a scientist. (Although, at least, I managed to finish high school, so maybe my views might be almost as valid as Gretas?)

That brings me back to my two inspirations: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Greta Thunberg. Hopefully, this will not come as a surprise to you, but neither one of them are scientists either, yet their scientific opinions are treated with rapt attention by media and politicians the world over. One was a bartender in New York City until June 26, 2018, when she secured around sixteen thousand votes to oust a ten-term Democratic incumbent congressman and went on to take his seat in the 2018 congressional election. Yet she wasted no time telling anyone who would listen that the world was in immediate jeopardy and demanding immediate action, even staging a sit-in to demand climate action from her own party leader. Then she would go on to unveil her Green New Deal to completely take over the American economy to save the planet, because, after all, the world is going to end in twelve years if we dont address climate change.

The other one, Greta Thunberg, is an activist from Sweden. Her expertise? Well, she was sixteen years old at the time of her rise to prominence. When I was sixteen, it was all I could do to drive a car in a straight line, but apparently, now being sixteen makes you an expert whom politicians and media figures breathlessly await every priceless opinion. She has managed to hold court in the Swedish Parliament, European Union, the United Nations, and the US Congress, with equal fawning media coverage at each venue. She has, we are told, inspired the youth climate movement wherein students did what any student loves to do: walked out of class and enjoyed a day off from school without fear of punishmentall to protest this existential threat that is about to end the world.

Both of these individuals are treated with glowing media coverage. Few of their claims are ever seriously challenged because, we are told, the cause for which they are making their claims is so noble. Saving the planet is so important we are told; so what are a few lies, factual distortions, and exaggerations along the way? So seriously is this taken that those who dare to criticize them are written off as misogynistic, racist, or both.

Even more inspiring to me personally, are their ages. AOC is only a few months older than I am. Thunberg is only a teenager (at the time of this writing). Yet they can hold the awestruck attention of politicians and media the world over, and all of their claims are almost instantly deemed credible. So why cant mine? All I am is a very average citizen who happens to try to maintain some degree of engagement with the news of the day, and even I can see this for what it is.

The answer, of course, is obvious. Pushing back against the claims of climate alarmists does not fit the thinly disguised political agenda behind their claims. But at the very least, it seems as though I can claim at least as much credibility as them, even though, let me state it again, I am not a scientist. I am under no illusions as to what kind of reception this book will receive, should it ever gain any attention. It will likely be declared debunked before it is even published, let alone read, because the pushers of this nonsense are keen to quash any dissent before it even takes off. This makes sense because the ideas they are pushing are so weak that they are right to fear any pushback against them.
