About the Authors

Dr. Ken Springer is a professor of education in the Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University. Dr. Springer is active in both teaching and research, with more than 60 scientific publications and presentations. He has also authored or co-authored a number of test preparation books for students and educators.

Dr. Maryann Gromoll is an Assistant Professor at Daytona State College and teaches teacher- preparation courses for exceptional student education, elementary, and secondary students. She has taught exceptional student education in grades K12 in both public and private school systems for over 29 years. She was also a behavior specialist for pre-K students with autism. Dr. Gromoll resides in Ocoee, Florida, with her husband, Kim. She has two children, Michael and Nik. Michael is a recent Florida State University graduate and Nik is a University of Central Florida alum.

Dr. Nancy Tattner has been an educator for the past 30 years. In 1969, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Loyola College (now Concordia University) in Montreal. In 1973 she earned her Diploma in Education from McGill University. While in Montreal, she taught sixth grade for five years and second grade for one year. From 1976 to 1986, she was a stay-at-home mom, raising her two children. She re-entered the teaching profession in 1986 after relocating to Daytona Beach, Florida. In Daytona she taught Kindergarten, fourth grade and fifth grade. When asked to be interim principal of a private K8 school, she returned to school to earn a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University (M.S., 1995). She then continued her studies to pursue a doctorate and graduated in December of 1998 from the University of Central Florida. Under her leadership as principal, her school was named a Blue Ribbon School in 2006. Today, as an associate professor at Daytona State College, her mission is to prepare future teachers with the knowledge and skills to be effective, passionate teachers of tomorrow.
