Creating and Growing WheatgrassCenterpieces

Create and grow wheatgrass centerpieces forweddings and other special events. Grow for yourself, or start yourown business and be the one to bring designer wheatgrasscenterpieces to your community. Wheatgrass can be used alone as thecenterpiece, used as background greenery, or embellished by yourlimitless imagination.

Floral designers use wheatgrass all yearround. Our wheatgrass has been at the W Hotel in Dallas Texas in 4"glass cubes. Wheatgrass grown in the round has been used for tablecenterpieces at the more sophisticated restaurants in Dallas. Eventdesigners have used our wheatgrass in conventions, car shows, golftournaments, and charity events. Brides- to- be have grownwheatgrass for their weddings and then grew it for their babyshowers. Wheatgrass kept short is popular for golf related themes.Wheatgrass is used by Christians for Easter displays, used by otherreligions in their festivals and celebrations. Photographers usewheatgrass for photo shoots. Caters use wheatgrass to showcasetheir edible arrangements and gourmet masterpieces. Wheatgrasscenterpieces can be elegant or rustic.

Many people have never been exposed to theluring effect of a room filled with wheatgrass at an event orparty. They have no idea what it is called. Wheatgrass has beencalled Easter grass, floral grass, rye grass or just grass. Yearsago one of my floral designers had a large event at a conventioncenter where he used wheatgrass as his centerpiece for the firsttime. He said he received more positive response from his $500.00worth of wheatgrass than he did for his $20,000 worth of flowersand other greenery. Years later a person may forget who the speakerwas, but will remember the wheatgrass. If you have a floral designbusiness or want to start one, the big money makers are the oneswith imagination or are the first to bring a new concept to theircommunity.

What makes wheatgrass so versatile is that itgrows quickly, 7-10 days, can be grown in almost any size or shape,and is inexpensive compared to some flowers and greenery. You canmake a big splash on a small budget by growing wheatgrass yourself.Flowers can be placed into the wheatgrass. Flowers can be wired tofloral picks and inserted into the wheatgrass mat. Wheatgrass isfirm enough that small objects can be inserted directly into thewheatgrass mat. Wheatgrass can be grown in trays and then be takenout and cut to fit odd shapes and sizes. Wheatgrass grown correctly(using our growing instructions), can be taken out of the tray andthen displayed without a distracting container. Wheatgrass takenout of the trays can be laid side by side to cover a large area. Ifdesired, moss, baby's breath or other greenery can be used to goaround the edges to hide the roots that are exposed.

Wheatgrass is grown in 10 x 20 trays and thentaken out of the tray. It is then laid side by side to cover alarger area. This works best with shorter wheatgrass.

Wheatgrass floral displays are treated asfresh floral arrangements as far as lifespan goes. It does best inindoor events. You might be able to display it outside during thespring, fall and winter. It would do better in the shade. It willnot hold up to direct sunlight in the summer. This is not somethingyou can plant and expect it to lasts for weeks. If kept out of thesun, in air conditioning and watered, it may last a week. Thewheatgrass will continue to grow and will need to be trimmed. Ifplaced in a cooler it will slow down its growing, and may last aweek or so. Wheatgrass left to grow at room temperatures willeventually get so tall that it will fall over. There have beenhowever, clients who wanted that effect for a safari theme.

Wheatgrass is the leaves of young wheat. Itis grown from the same seed as the wheat seed that is planted,harvested and ground into flour to make bread. Wheatgrass is youngwheat that wants to grow up and become big wheat with grains ofwheat seed. Once it is grown it is no longer wheatgrass, it iswheat. As it matures it will clump and grow a stalk.
