The cover image is an original pastel by James Oberle, who says this about the painting:
The beat of the Native American drum echoes the heartbeat of Turtle Island, which is also known as North America. Of the seven colors used to create this piece, red, white, yellow, and black represent the four races of man and the four directions. The seventh color used is pipestone.
The turtle represents the living earth. The thirteen circles inside the sacred hoop (the turtle shell) signify the lunar cycles in a year. The thirteenth circle, the drum, is in the center. The sun at the turtles head and the water, as shown by the thin blue-green line, are essential to all life. The turtles claws show the connection to all creation.
