It is time to celebrate !

Prepare the food . Light

the candles . Sing the

songs and say the

prayers.

The eight days of

Hanukkah (HAH-nuh-kah)

are here!

Hanukkah is

celebrated

in 1954 .

Hanukkah is a Jewish

holiday . It is the festival

of lights . It honors a

time from the past .

Hanukkah is celebrated today .

The Wonder

Long ago , a king wanted

the Jewish people to

follow his ways . The

Jewish people did not

want to . They had their

own ways . So , the king

damaged the Jewish

temple .

This model shows

what the temple

looked like.

Jewish leaders

wore special robes

in the temple .

A small group of Jewish

people fought and took

back the temple . They

lit a holy lamp . There

was only enough oil

to light the lamp for

one day . But the lamp

burned for eight days !

The people celebrate

the wonder of the lamp .

remember the wonder of the
