This book contains five practice tests for the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills).

They follow the format used in the TEAS 3.0, 4.0, V, and later exams, with emphasis on the TEAS V, since that is the version most likely to be required by nursing schools today. Taking these practice tests will give you a good idea of what youll encounter when you take the real exam. As you complete the tests, youll become familiar with the directions, structure, and content that youre likely to see when you take the real exam.

The TEAS exam is used for admission to certain nursing schools. It is administered by the Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) of Stilwell, Kansas. Different programs require different exams; for example, some schools expect applicants to take the Nurse Entrance Test (NET) or the National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Examination (NLN PAX-RN).

Other schools give you a variety of entrance exams from which to choose. Still others require the TEAS exclusively. Some may require TEAS 3.0 or 4.0; others may require TEAS V or a later exam, and a few may allow you a choice among the different versions of TEAS.

To know whether the school or schools of your choice require the TEAS, visit their websites or call their admissions offices. Before you begin to study, make sure that you are studying for the correct test. The test is given at testing sites around the country, often at nursing schools or community colleges.

The dates of the test depend on the application dates for the nursing school where you take the test. Some sites offer only online testing, others offer only paper-and-pencil versions of the test, and some offer both. Before you take the test, you must log onto the ATI website and set up an accountwww.atitesting.com. Remember the username and password you use for your accountyou will need them when you log in for the electronic version of the test. Test sites are listed on the website.

It may take up to 48 hours for scores to be sent out. Check with your chosen nursing programs to find out when they need score transcripts. Then work backward from that date to determine when you should take the test. If you take the test at the nursing school that you hope to attend, the date of the test will be designed to mesh with that schools application dates.

If you are taking a pencil-and-paper version of the test, you will need several sharpened number 2 pencils with erasers that work well and erase thoroughly. If you are taking the TEAS online, you will need your ATI account username and password.

For either form of the test, you must present one form of government-issued identification. Passports, drivers licenses, or green cards are fine; credit card photos or student IDs are not. You may not use any resources such as calculators or reference books. You may not carry a cell phone, pager, or other electronic device. You may not bring food or beverages into the testing site.

You will receive a printed transcript, which will include a variety of numbers.Next page
