Acknowledgments
F irst and foremost, I wish to thank my dear mother, Georgina S. Royer, for her lifetime of help, guidance, and assistance. She is a remarkable lady who fully deserves notice for her tremendous abilities and her steadfast faith in me.
I also wish to thank my literary agents, Greg Dinkin and Frank Scatoni. Greg is an accomplished author in his own right, and Frank is a widely respected book editor. Through their agency, Venture Literary, they recognized the value of what I had to offer as an author of books on casino games and gaming. Without their efforts, this book, and the others in this series, would never have come to exist.
My thanks also to Bruce Bender at Kensington Publishing, who has published this book and this series. He recognized that this book and this series offer valuable insight into the casino games as they really are, and that this book will enable almost all players to finally realize a happy and profitable casino experience. I thank Bruce, and the staff of Kensington, for their help in this process, and in particular, my editors Richard Ember and Ann LaFarge.
I extend my gratitude and thanks to my longtime friend Tom Caldwell for the many things he has done to help me and for enriching my life. I also send my thanks to Norreta, Sean, and Brent, for reasons they all know.
My sincere thanks to Bob Dempsey and his company in Las Vegas, Dempsey Graphics, for their help with many illustrations in my books. Bob, thanks also for making that videotape for me for Jay Leno and the Tonight Show .
To all my other friends and associates in the gaming business, from owners, managers, senior executives, hosts and supervisors: You all know who you are, and I thank you.
My friends in Australia: Neil and his family, Lilli and little MRM (Mark), Ormond College, University of Melbourne, the governor of Victoria and my former master, Sir Davis McCaughey. Also his Proctorial Eminence R. A. Dwyer, Esq. (I still have the Swiss knife you gave me more than 20 years ago), and the Alumni Association of the University of Wollongong, NSW, Department of Philosophy, and Professor Chipman. Also to the executive, editorial and display advertising staff of The Age newspaper in Melbourne, Australia, and to Fairfax Press in Sydney, with whom I had the pleasure of being associated at one time.
I also extend my grateful appreciation to Laurence E. Levit, C.P.A. of Los Angeles, who has been my steadfast friend, accountant, and adviser for two decades, whose faith in me and my work has never faltered. A truer friend a man rarely finds. Also to Michael Harrison, attorney-at-law in Beverly Hills, California, whose expertise and help have made my life more secure.
At this time, I wish to specifically and gratefully single out Ed Rogich from International Game Technology (IGT). I thank him for his foresight and his much appreciated assistance during the process of writing this book. Thanks to my longtime friend Rick Sorensen, also from IGT, for all his help. Mr. Rogich and Mr. Sorensen were directly instrumental in providing me with the kind of information I had to have. Without their assistance, I would not have been able to show you the photographs of those many IGT machines and games I like so much. Thanks to Cynthia White, also from IGT, for her support, as well as Connie Fox, Dawn Cox, Robert Lightfoot, Nancy King, Todd Brown, Joe Kaminkow, Charles Cranford, and Harold Shotwell. Without the support of all these people and their valuable help and assistance, it would have been extremely difficult to tell you about the games in this book, which I have played and wanted to showcase. My thanks also to all the staff, executives, and officers of IGT, of Reno, Nevada.
Finally, to all those whose paths have crossed with mine, and who have for one reason or another stopped a while and visited. I may no longer remember your names, but I do remember what it meant to have those moments.
Thank you!

Postscript
I n this book you have seen the future of casino gambling. The video slots I have shown you are the cutting edge of the current technological revolution. Many of the games in this book are only now appearing in casinos throughout the United States, and elsewhere in the world. They are the very latest of the video gaming machines that have taken casinos by storm over the past decade. And they are only the beginning. Even as you are reading this paragraph, there are great new innovations already planned. Many are done and ready, waiting only on the players to catch up to the technology. The future of the modern casino will be even more remarkable than the games we now know. Holographic video slots, for example, are already a reality, even though not yet on the casino floor.
There are currently designs being made for what is about to be called the total gaming experience, or TGE for short. These are self-contained and enclosed kiosks that contain a virtual casino. These will be placed on the casino floor, kind of like the big arcade games where you have to get inside and sit down to play the game. In this modern casino version, you would step inside this kiosk, sit in a sumptuously comfortable chair with all the amenities handy, such as drink holders. Surrounding you will be a surround-sound wide screen plasma digital TV display. As you walk in and sit down, the kiosk will come to life and the games will welcome you. You will be greeted, asked to insert your players card, your credit or bank cards, or your casino credits, and select from a multitude of menus. Later models will include a complete virtual reality, where the entire casino experience will unfold in front of you in holograms. You will activate the games and your choices by touching virtual icons that will appear as holographic images all around you. All the games will play in 3-D, and you will be in the middle of it all. Not just video slots, but any kind of casino game, even new games that require knowledge and skills. Such games are already partially here, and more are coming. The future of casino gaming, and especially video and holographic gaming, is here already, and there are only three reasons why you are not yet seeing these kinds of innovations in your favorite casino.
