Developmental psychologist and veteran language teacher Maurice Hazan has created an ingenious new way to help kids over that hurdle. The I Can Read and Speak series makes learning fun with an exciting combination of dramatic action pictures, sounds, symbols, and learning activities including flash cards and stickers.

    This book was created to introduce basic sentence structuring skills to children ages 5 to 12. With the help of the audio CD provided, parents will be able to learn Spanish along with their children. This book is based on a foreign language method called Symtalk (symbols to talk), which is used with great success in many schools in America.

    Children learn the vocabulary through a series of visuals. Placed side by side, these visuals are then interpreted as sentences. This book tells the story of 4 friends who go to the park together with their bicycles and pets. Quickly the pets want to take part in the games and fun things happen! The vocabulary introduced features names of children and common objects, adjectives and verbs. And the audio CD provided with this book will offer a good guide to using the book, the flash cards and the stickers. We hope you enjoy it!     This enjoyment will stem from the ease with which the child can visualize each new Spanish word. Once parents go over the same words a few times, the child will begin memorizing and understanding the vocabulary. After reading the same chapter two or three times, the child will be able to interpret it with minimal parental intervention. And to allow older children to make the connection between the picture and the text, we have placed the Spanish words below each picture. Soon the child will read these pictures, just as if he or she were interpreting a hieroglyphic depiction. Narrating the photographic scene will become increasingly natural.

    The set of cards that accompany this book will allow the student to create his or her own sentences, and the parent will discover that the child is able to create many sentences often very funny ones!
