This book, written by Sambaiah Sammeta and Sukumar Chillakuru, and technically reviewed by Venkata Ravi Kumar Yenugula will cover most of the scenarios for upgrading the Oracle database from versions 11g, 12c, and 18c databases to Oracle version 19c. This book describes the best methods that can be used to upgrade the Oracle databases, and mainly deals with how to use the Oracles AutoUpgrade utility to upgrade the databases from the lower versions to Oracle 19c with minimal manual intervention. This book covers the various scenarios tested against the Real Application Clusters databases with Physical Standby databases, and also covers the test cases for both the non-container databases and the multitenant databases. This book also contains the various downgrade scenarios tested and explains both the benefits and pitfalls with each of the downgrade processes. The book is releasing at the right time as Oracle is strongly recommending to use the AutoUpgrade tool to upgrade the Oracle databases. This book covers most of the scenarios that a DBA can find in a real time environment, and most importantly, each chapter is well tested and has hands-on steps, making this book an extremely helpful guide for the Oracle Database upgrade process.

About the Authors

Sambaiah Sammeta is an Oracle Certified Professional with 15+ years of experience, working as an Oracle Database administrator consultant. He provided the DBA support for various clients including the clients in the Banking sector, Retail, Health care services, automobile sector, and the Financial service verticals. He is an Oracle Cloud certified Architect professional (2020 and 2019), Oracle Autonomous database cloud certified, and Oracle database cloud certified specialist (2020). He planned and performed all the 11g to 19c and 12c to 19c database upgrades in a few of the major banking and Health care clients.

Sukumar Chillakuru is a DBA by profession with 14+ years of experience, currently working as a Database Architect at Infolob Solutions India Pvt Ltd. in Chennai. He has previously worked in reputed IT firms like Oracle, CTS, Apps Associates, and Megasoft. He is an expert in performing the Oracle Database Upgrades and Migrations. He is an Oracle certified Professional in Oracle database, Autonomous database, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Professional, and Oracle Goldengate Certified Specialist.

He developed his passion in technical writing and grabbed the opportunity to work with the Oracle University as an Author and Co-Author of five different courses on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Oracle Autonomous Database.
