CONTENTS
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
B efore I thank anyone else for helping me write and complete this book, I first wish to acknowledge the superb technical editing of the book by Bob Bryla, a well-known Oracle Press author of many years standing. Even with his busy schedule, Bob has kindly accepted the publishers request to help out with this book, and all of us owe him a big round of thanks for taking up whats usually a tedious and thankless job and working on it with unusual commitment and dedication. Bob, I learned a lot from you in the course of writing this book, from the Oracle database point of view as well as regarding the setting of rigorous standards in writing a technical book, and focusing hard on truly helping readers learn complex material.
I owe great thanks to Mary Demery, acquisitions coordinator at McGraw-Hill Education, who handled the book project from initiation to the very end with great cheer and efficiency. It was a real pleasure to work with you, Mary! Meghan Riley Manfre initiated the project a long time ago, and Im really grateful to Meghan for all her great support and help during the writing of the book, especially when we had to make several key decisions on the format and content of some of the material. Both Mary and Meghan, with their superb professionalism and empathetic support, made writing this book extremely enjoyable through the long months it took to get the job done!
