I dedicate this book to my wife Jean, who is in every way my partner and right hand, and to our children Susan, Cappy, Paul, and Shannon. They, ever at my side, have shared all of the joy, satisfaction, hardship, frustration, and challenge inherent when one follows a quest.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Writing about my life and livelihood is like looking at myself in the mirror at age 70. Because we are all genetically engineered, I am to a large degree beholden to my parents for much of my physical makeup. The rest of my makeup, warts and all, has been of my own making, with a huge contribution from lady luck. I was born with physical attributes that allowed me to participate in all sports at a time when sports, especially basketball, entered the Golden Era.
Moreover, Chanute, Kansas was only 90 miles from the University of Kansas, where I later played under the dean of basketball coaching, Dr. Forrest "Phog" Allen, and was privileged to know professor James Naismith, the father of basketball. Later pages will detail the evolution of this great game as I have known it. I have many to thank for my achievements.
