Foreword
Major Max C. Fleischmann left an immeasurable impact on Nevada and Nevadans. No other person has contributed more to the Silver State and its residents.
During the eight years this writer served as governor of Nevada, the Fleischmann Foundation was synonymous with dollars for worthy educational, health, and environmental projects designed for the people of our state.
I leave it to author Sessions "Buck" Wheeler to relate the astounding number of contributions the Max C. Fleischmann Foundation made to better the quality of life for several generations of Nevadans.
Becoming acquainted with Major Fleischmann through Wheeler's eyes is both a revelation and a pleasure. The total mansoldier, hunter, fisherman, friend, explorer, husband, and businessmanbecomes real. Wheeler's Fleischmann is a man I wish I had known during the years he lived in the state of Nevada.
Men get to know each other better when fishing a trout stream than they do sitting in a board room. There is no rank among fishermen and hunters. Everybody takes his turn breaking trail and cooking over the campfire in the outdoors. The trips the author took with Max Fleischmann reveal a man of spirit, kindliness, and wisdom. As a reader it made me wish I had been with the Major and Wheeler on at least one outing.
There were others during this period who gave their time and talents to the betterment of the state, including my

friend Judge Clark J. Guild. The author includes them in this memorable book about one of Nevada's greatest benefactors, Major Max C. Fleischmann.
