Learn Italian for Beginners:
Over 1000 Easy and Common Phrases for Learning Italian Language
Introduction
The Italian language is considered one of the most beautiful languages because it is a romance language. I, much like most people, do not have time to sit in front of a computer or in a classroom in order to learn common phrases. This is the reason that I chose to write this book. This book complements peoples busy daily life. It is also written for the person who is willing to learn even if you have never spoken a single word of Italian. I have had numerous people come up to me asking me questions in Italian that I just could not answer. I always felt that learning Italian was an overwhelming task.
In Learn Italian for Beginners: Over 1000 Easy and Common Phrases for Learning Italian Language it combines the parts of basic English speech in order to help you understand what phrases you will be speaking in Italian. I have broken down this overwhelming task into basic, easy, and understandable entertainment. Each chapter has a rich assortment of phrases used in everyday scenarios to help the reader delve into the world of speaking Italian.
I have included common phrases you can speak, along with the English translation to accompany it. You can utilize this book (or audiobook if youre listening this) in many ways. I know I have. My experiences in using these phrases have ranged from sitting down at the dinner table with friends and asking where their cat was in Italian to help a stranger get to the restroom. In these instances, the people I was around were very impressed with my ability to communicate these common phrases. I am pleased to have the opportunity for you to be able to experience this, as well.
I just want to add one more very important note before we start. I know Italian very well because I have many friends with whom I grew up who taught me this wonderful language. In addition, I lived in Italy for a few years, but I am not an expert on Italian traditions and their culture. So out of respect for their people, there will be no reference in this book to their way of life, to art, to food and its beautiful landscapes. I will focus only on the teaching of the language, reporting the most useful and commonly used Italian phrases, as well as more advanced terms and structures. I know that many readers and listeners live in the United States like me, so to help you make it more familiar, I decided to set this book in the South of our country. It is indeed scientifically proven that imagining situations we have in common, but spoken in a different language, helps us even more to learn foreign languages.
Chapter 1: Nouns
A noun, as you may remember from elementary school, is a person, place, animal or thing. How can we forget, right!? This chapter is focused on nouns and how to say them in phrases in Italian.
I was able to meet my coworker and his wonderful family, the Rossi. This family helped me on my journey in learning common and easy phrases in Italian. I am fortunate enough to still be able to practice the phrases that I have learned with them. My initial journey all started at a barbeque on a Saturday afternoon. I did not know what I was in for. I figured it would be your run of the mill barbeque with meat and potato salad.
Luca invited me to his parents house for some grilled meat, and I graciously accepted. Who says no to free food!? I, of course, brought a side dish, my famous bacon salad. I was not sure if this would fit into the typical side dishes. I didnt put any thought into taking anything else because I really do not have any experience in cooking. I didnt want to buy anything premade because I wanted to make a good impression. After all, I have never met these people and thought it would be nice.
As I walked up and rung the doorbell, I saw a sign that said: Elena la regina della casa . Sergio il re della casa . I couldnt help but wonder what that meant. My friend, Luca, opened the door and welcomed me to his parents house. After an informal greeting and a kudos for bringing my bacon salad, I had to ask what that meant.
Elena la regina della casa.
  • Elena is the queen of the house.
Sergio il re della casa.
  • Sergio is the king of the house.
We then walked into the kitchen, where I was introduced to his parents.
Elena e Sergio sono i miei genitori.
  • Elena and Sergio are my parents.
After I greeted and introduced myself, I was walked outside to where I met Andrea, Lucas brother.
Lui mio fratello Andrea.
  • This is my brother, Andrea.
Andrea un dottore in Messico.
  • Andrea is a doctor in Mexico.
Andrea il marito di Maria.
  • Andrea is Marias husband.
Andrea then introduced me to his wife, Maria.
Maria mia moglie.
  • Mara is my wife.
Maria then greeted me with a warm hug. Andrea said:
Maria uninfermiera in Messico.
  • Maria is a nurse in Mexico.
Abbiamo due figli.
  • We have two children.
Il nome del ragazzo Alessio.
  • The boys name is Alessio.
Lui mio figlio.
  • He is my son.
Il nome della ragazza Stefania.
  • The girls name is Stefania.
Lei mia figlia.
  • She is my daughter.
Maria la madre di Stefania e Alessio.
  • Maria is Stefania and Alessios mother.
Io sono il padre di Stefania e Alessio.
  • I am Stefania and Alessios father.
Alessio e Stefania sono studenti.
  • Alessio and Stefania are students.
Sergio il nonno di Alessio e Stefania.
  • Sergio is Alessio and Stefanias grandfather.
Elena la nonna di Alessio e Stefania.
  • Elena is Alessio and Stefanias grandmother.
Luca lo zio di Alessio e Stefania.
  • Luca is Alessio and Stefanias uncle.
Laura nostra sorella.
  • Laura is our sister.
Laura la zia di Alessio e Stefania.
  • Laura is Alessio and Stefanias aunt.
After explaining that Laura was on a business trip and would not be at the barbeque, Luca introduced me to Lauras daughter, Melissa.
Melissa mia nipote.
  • Melissa is my niece.
Melissa la cugina di Stefania e Alessio.
  • Melissa is Stefania and Alessios cousin.
Melissa ha un beb di un anno e il suo nome Isabella.
  • Melissa has a one-year old baby named Isabella.
Melissa una postina.
  • Melissa is a mail carrier.
Melissa then introduced me to her beautiful baby girl and her husband, Roberto. Melissas baby girl had beautiful blue eyes. Neither parents had colored eyes, so I asked them where she inherited her blue eyes. Roberto told me that his father had green eyes, and his grandfather had blue eyes. The baby ended up with the gene that skipped him.
Melissa continued to tell me about how Roberto knows the family and what he does for a living.
Roberto il miglior amico di Alessio.
  • Roberto is Alessios best friend.
Roberto un ufficiale di polizia.
  • Roberto is a police officer.
