Finally, there s Ratat osk, a scamperi ng squirre l who spre ads lies between Nidhogg and the eagle.

Through the ce nter of th e Norse cosmos grow s a mig hty ash tree called Y gg drasil . It conn ects the Nin e Worlds of the co smos wi th sway ing branches and tw istin g roots . Its snow- cap ped cr own ris es above the clouds , and d ew sl ides f rom it s lea ves to fa ll on t he va lleys be low. The Nin e Worlds are hom e to di ffe rent gods , creatures, and pe ople. The fair elve s live in Alfheim. In the bra nches west of Asgar d lies V anaheim, home of the V anir gods. VAN AHEIM THREE WELLS Yggdra sil is nourished thro ugh thre e roo ts fed by thr ee wells. One roo t rises to the We ll of Urd in Asgard , while another wends and winds t o Mimirs W ell in Jotunheim. The third root burrow s deep into icy Niflheim. Here it connects to a w ell called Hv er gelmir , which seethes and hisses lik e a b oiling k ettle. JRMUNGANDR MANI HVERGELMIR NIDHOGG RAT ATOS K ALFHEIM Mani drives the mo ons chariot , chased by the wolf , Hati. This malicious dragon s name means hateful stri ker . The Wo rld Serpent encir cles Midgar d. Drill to oth is a busy squir r el. Snakes and dra gons live in this w ell.

It is connected t o Asgar d b y the Rainbow BridgeBifrost . This is the land of the giants. Svart alfaheim i s the home of the dark, dusky elve s. Nidavell ir is where the dwarfs t oil at their fir es and smelting pots. The dark world of mist and ice has a name meaning world of fog. Muspelheim is Niflheims oppositea r ea lm of fire and smoke . Every day they mix mud using water from the W el l of Urd , which they smear ont o the tr ee t o r epair it. The we ll wate r is so powe rful it turns anything it to uches as white as the inside of an eggshell. Without the Norns constant car e, Yggdr asil will die. BIFROST EAGLE HAW K MIMIRS WELL WELL OF URD STAG S SOL JOTUNHEI M This well give s wisdom to anyone who drinks from it. This is the meeting place of the gods.
