About the author

1. In China, less than 30% of its airspace can be used by commercial airlines. This could be one of the reasons why Chinas airports are the worst in the world when it comes to punctuality.

2. Adam Armstrong bought a Ryanair airline ticket in 2015, and by mistake, his surname was misspelled, so he chose to change his name because it was more cost effective than just fixing the ticket. The airline charged 220 pounds in administrative fees to alter the ticket, while it was free to change his name, and it only cost 103 pounds to get a new passport.

3. Each American commercial aircraft is struck by lightning an estimated one time every year. Fortunately, because of improved technology, lightning hasnt caused a single plane to crash since 1967.

4. China has a shortage of pilots, and as a result, pilots there can make up to $300,000 annually, tax free. A pilot named Jeff Graham said that he used to fly one hundred hours monthly for Southern Air, but now as a carrier pilot in Shenzhen, he makes thrice as much money flying only fifty hours a month.

5. Commercial flight QF1121 of Qantas Airways was the first one to use sustainable derived biofuel in Australia. It took place in 2012, and one of the airplanes engines used fuel made from cooking oil.

6. The Juan T. Trippe was the first commercial jumbo jet in the world, and was made in 1970. Its now been decommissioned and is in Seoul, South Korea, where it serves as a high concept restaurant.

7. In order to reduce the risk of collision with planes, US airports use peregrine falcons to keep gulls and geese away from the runways.

8. Pilots on British Airways once turned back a plane in 2015 when a man took a poop that smelled so bad.

9. Hassan The Second, the King of Morocco, once escaped death when he was on his Boeing 727 being shot at by assassins. He grabbed the radio and told the assassins in the planes who were shooting at him stop shooting, the tyrant is dead which made them stop and disperse.

10. In 2003, a Boeing 727 was stolen from an Angolan airport by two men. They simply disappeared and were never seen again.

11. In Arizona there is a place known as the boneyard where about 3,000 military aircraft live, some of them up to sixty years old. They literally just sit there and are occasionally harvested for spare parts.

12. A study by the BBC was done in 2013 that showed that over 50% of pilots had fallen asleep while flying and almost 30% had woken up to the copilot sleeping a well.

13. The reason snipers usually have an apparatus to help them shoot is because their bullets travel so fast that the rotation of Earth moves the target, hence, snipers need to adjust their aim accordingly.

14. A ten year old boy once saved his grandmas life when she fell unconscious in front of the wheel. He ended up driving the vehicle himself which he said he learned from playing Mario Kart.

15. One of the worlds toughest creatures is the microscopic tardigrade, also known as water bear or moss piglet. It can live up to ten years without water and can withstand temperatures as low as -459 degrees Fahrenheit, and as high as 304 degrees Fahrenheit (-272 to 151 degrees Celsius).

16. Dolly the sheep was the first mammal ever to be successfully cloned. It was cloned on July 5, 1996, from an adult cell at the Roslin Institute in Scotland. She was named after Dolly Parton because she was cloned from a mammary cell.

17. As actor Ving Rhames was filming The Saint of Fort Washington in 1993, he met a homeless man, and quickly discovered that he was really his older brother named Junior. Junior had been missing since he served in Vietnam, and Rhames family had been looking for him ever since.

18. UK rapper Mia hadnt had contact with her father since age ten, and she only knew that her father fought in the Sri Lankan Civil War against the government as a Tamil Tiger. To get him to reach out, she named her debut album Arular, after her father. The plan was that he would Google his name, find her music, and reach out. It worked.

19. A seventy seven year old hunter got lost in a forest in Quebec, Canada, near Lac Saint-Jean for two days in September, 2011, and the police search party couldnt find him. His friend, a former wrestling star named Raymond Rougeau, took his seaplane up over the forest, did his own search, and he found the hunter alive.

20. The board game Chess has more possible moves than the number of particles in the universe. For every move you make, it opens up thirty eight acceptable moves. A chess match consists of about forty moves per person, meaning the total number of possible moves equals ten to the power of 126. That also means that there are lots of chess moves that we are yet to figure out.

21. A man from Ohio named Gary Rosheisen, with a tendency to suffer from strokes, attempted to teach his cat Tommy how to dial 911. In 2006, the man fell over from a stroke and the police actually received a silent phone call. When the emergency help arrived at his place, they found the man incapacitated and the cat by the phone.

22. A study conducted at Carnegie Mellon University, in Pittsburgh, concluded that meditating for about half an hour a day for eight weeks can considerably reduce the feeling of loneliness in adults. It also made them feel a lot happier.

23. Jeremy Harper has the world record for the largest number ever counted. He reached one million, taking him three months; he streamlined the whole process online, raising money for charity.
