Introduction What is TOEFL ITP? The TOEFL (Test of English as a ForeignLanguage) ITP (Institutional Testing Program) Test is a test thatmeasures students academic English skills. It tests the followingthree skills: Listening, Structure and Written Expression(grammar), and Reading. Its different from other TOEFL versionsas follows: It has no writing component as in the TOEFLPBT (Paper-Based Test). Its a paper based test, which is differentfrom the TOEFL CBT (Computer-Based Test). It has no speaking component nor integratedskills questions, as in the TOEFL iBT (internet-Based Test). The TOEFL ITP score is limited as it isonly accepted by specific universities and institutions.
The TOEFL ITP test is usually not offered atthe ETS (Educational Testing Service) certified centers. It isusually offered at the institution that is requesting thescore. Reading Section The readingsection of the TOEFL ITP test has 50 questions you must answer in55 minutes, with a maximum score of 67 and a minimum score of 31.It has 4-5 reading passages. According to ETS, the topics areusually academic topics about arts, humanities, life sciences,physical sciences, and social sciences. How to use this section of the book? Practice Self defence mechanisms Today were going to be talking about selfdefence mechanisms. Some of the most common defence mechanisms aredenial, regression, acting out, and projection. First, lets talkabout denial.
Denial is when people refuse to accept the truth toavoid dealing with painful feelings. For example, a person who hasa drinking problem might not admit it. The second defence mechanismis regression. This is when people revert back to an earlier stageof their development because of trauma or stress. For example, agrown man might wet the bed, when he is under a great deal ofstress. Acting out, is a defence mechanism where people may dosomething in order to feel some sort of release of their negativeemotions.
For instance, they might punch a wall or throw somethingat the person they are angry at. Lastly, projection is when someoneputs the blame on someone else or something else, when really infact they are the one who is to blame.
