NRBURGRING

Nrburgring loops around the medieval town of Nrburg in the Eifel Mountains in Germany.

The track is so THRILLING and CHALLENGING that it was nicknamed THE GREEN HELL. It has two tracks, a 3.199-mile Grand Prix track, which used to be the home of the German Grand Prix, and the world-famous Nordschleife. At 12.944 miles, the Nordschleife is INCREDIBLY LONG and has the most varied road surface of any race track. Today, the most famous event held here is the Zurich 24-HOUR RACE . In this race, professional and amateur drivers compete against each other. The Argentinian driver Juan Manuel Fangio is a legend and one of F1s greatest-ever drivers.

His best race was here, at the German Grand Prix in 1957. Midway through the race, he was more than a minute behind but stunned the crowd by pipping Mike Hawthorn to first place in the closing stages.

Jackie Stewart was first over the finish line at the 1968 German Grand Prixdespite racing with a broken wrist! It is considered to be one of Formula Ones most accomplished drives.

Although driving here is mostly about speed, the driver of the Trabant P50 would disagree. In 1960, the car posted the slowest-ever lap recorded on the Nordschleife.

As well as being a place for professional motorsport, the Nrburgring is a must-visit place for any car enthusiast.

Members of the public can pay to have try out driving around the famous ring. The fastest lap by a normal car was recorded by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS in September 2017, when it completed the course in an incredible 6.473 minutes.
