3 balls #098 Houston cream*
Size L/11/8mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge
With 2 strands held tog: Rnds 13 = 3 inches; 9 hdc = 4 inches; 6 rows = 3 inches
Pattern Notes

Weave in ends as work progresses.
Basket is worked with 2 strands held together. Eyes and Nose are worked with single strand.
Work in continuous rounds; do not join unless otherwise stated. Use stitch marker to mark beginning of rounds and move up as each round is completed.
Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.
Chain-2 at beginning of round counts as first half double crochet unless otherwise stated.
Chain-3 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated.
Special Stitches
Extended treble crochet (ext tr): Yo twice, insert hook in indicated st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, draw through 1 lp, [yo, draw through 2 lps] 3 times.
Picot: Ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook.

Rnd 1 (RS): With 2 strands held tog(see Pattern Notes), make a slip ring(see illustration), ch 1, 8 hdc in ring, place marker(see Pattern Notes). Pull gently on beg tail to close sts. (8 hdc)
Rnd 2: 2 hdc in each st around. (16 hdc)
Rnd 3: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st] 8 times. (24 hdc)
Rnd 4: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 2 hdc] 8 times. (32 hdc)
Rnd 5: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 3 sts] 8 times. (40 hdc)
Rnd 6: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 4 sts] 8 times. (48 hdc)
Rnd 7: [2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 5 sts] 8 times. (56 hdc)
Sides
Rnds 17: Hdc in each st around.
Rnd 8: Sc in each of next 19 sts, *dc in next st, tr in next st, ext tr(see Special Stitches) in next st, picot(see Special Stitches),dtr in next st (see Stitch Guide), ext tr in next st, tr in next st, dc in next st*, sc in the next 4 sts, rep between * once, sc in each of last 19 sts, join(see Pattern Notes).
Eye
Make 2.
Rnd 1 (RS): Leaving long beg tail, make a slip ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring, join in first sc. Pull gently on beg tail to close sts. (6 sc)
Row 2: Now working in rows, ch 2(see Pattern Notes), hdc in base of beg ch-2, 2 hdc in each of next 3 sc, leave rem sts unworked, turn. (8 hdc)
Row 3: Ch 3(see Pattern Notes), dc in base of beg ch-3, 2 dc in each st across. Leaving a long tail for sewing, fasten off. (16 dc)
Finishing
Referring to photo, position each Eye with bottom edges at 45-degree angle from top edge of Basket and corner of last row slightly below point of picot. Leave approximately inch between lower corners.
Thread beg tail on needle. Working from back to front through center of rnd 1 and then from front to back between rnds 1 and 2, sew over each st of rnd 1 through both thicknesses.
With end tail, sew outer edge of Eye to Basket.
Beak
With straight stitches(see illustration), make a triangle with point facing down between Eyes, fill in with straight stitches.
