Use up your yarn stash to make some practical and pretty baskets that will help you organize clutter in any room!
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Small Basket: 6 inches in diameter x 4 inches tall
Medium Basket: 7 inches in diameter x 5 inches tall
Large Basket: 8 inches in diameter x 6 inches tall
MATERIALS
Bernat Super Value medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (7 oz/426 yds/197g per skein):
1 skein each #53041 clay, #53201 aqua and #53531 rouge
Size H/8/5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
Tapestry needle
Stitch markers
Sewing needle
Matching sewing thread
-inch buttons: 8 each red, gray and aqua
GAUGE
With 2 stands held tog: Rnds 15 = 6 inches in diameter
PATTERN NOTES
Work with 2 strands of yarn held together throughout unless otherwise stated.
Work in continuous rounds; do not turn or join unless otherwise stated.
Mark first stitch of round. Move marker up as work progresses.
Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.
SPECIAL STITCH
Long half double crochet (lng hdc): Yo, insert hook in base of indicated st, pull up lp, yo, draw through all lps on hook.
SMALL BASKET
Rnd 1: With 2 strands clay held tog(see Pattern Notes), make slip ring(see illustration), 12 hdc in ring, pull end to close ring, do not join, place marker(see Pattern Notes). (12 hdc)
Rnd 2: 2 hdc in each st around. (24 hdc)
Rnd 3: [Hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st] around. (36 hdc)
Rnd 4: [Hdc in each of next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st] around. (48 hdc)
Rnd 5: [Hdc in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st] around. (60 hdc)
Rnd 6: Working in back lps(see Stitch Guide), sc dec(see Stitch Guide) in first 2 sts, *hdc in next st, [sc in next st, hdc in next st] 6 times**, sc dec in next 2 sts, rep from * around, ending last rep at **. (56 sts)
Rnd 7: [Lng hdc(see Special Stitch) in next st, sc in next st] around.
Rnds 818: Rep rnd 7. Do not fasten off at end of last rnd.
HANDLES
Rnd 19: Ch 15, sk first 3 sts, sl st in next st (Handle made), sl st in each of next 24 sts, ch 15, sk next 3 sts, sl st in next st (Handle made), sl st in each rem st around to first Handle, sc in each ch of first Handle. Fasten off.
With 2 strands clay held tog, join(see Pattern Notes) in first ch of 2nd Handle, ch 1, sc in same ch and in each rem ch across Handle. Fasten off.
MEDIUM BASKET
Rnds 15: With 2 strands aqua held tog, rep rnds 15 for Small Basket.
Rnd 6: [Hdc in each of next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st] around. (72 hdc)
Rnd 7: Working in back lps(see Stitch Guide), sc dec(see Stitch Guide) in first 2 sts, *[hdc in next st, sc in next st] 8 times**, sc dec in next 2 sts, rep from * around, ending last rep at **. (68 sts)
Rnd 8: *Long hdc(see Special Stitch) in next st, sc in next st] around.
Rnds 921: Rep rnd 8. Do not fasten off at end of last rnd.
HANDLES
Rnd 22: Ch 20, sk first 3 sts, sl st in next st (Handle made), sl st in each of next 30 sts, ch 20, sk next 3 sts, sl st in next st (Handle made), sl st in each rem st around to first Handle, sc in each ch of first Handle. Fasten off.
With 2 strands aqua held tog, join(see Pattern Notes) in first ch of 2nd Handle, ch 1, sc in same ch and in each rem ch across Handle. Fasten off.
LARGE BASKET
Rnds 15: With 2 strands rouge held tog, rep rnds 15 for Small Basket.
Rnd 6: [Hdc in each of next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st] around. (72 hdc)
Rnd 7: [Hdc in each of next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st] around. (84 hdc)
Rnd 8: Working in back lps(see Stitch Guide), sc dec(see Stitch Guide) in first 2 sts, *hdc in next st, [sc in next st, hdc in next st] 9 times**, sc dec in next 2 sts, rep from * around, ending last rep at **. (80 sts)
Rnd 9: [Sc in next hdc, lng hdc(see Special Stitch) in next sc] around.
Rnds 1024: Rep rnd 9.
HANDLES
Rnd 25: Ch 20, sk first 3 sts, sl st in next st (Handle made), sl st in each of next 36 sts, ch 20, sk next 3 sts, sl st in next st (Handle made), sl st in each rem st around to first Handle, sc in each ch across first Handle. Fasten off.
With 2 strands rouge held tog, join(see Pattern Notes) in first ch of 2nd Handle, ch 1, sc in same ch and in each rem ch across Handle. Fasten off.
FINISHING FOR ALL SIZES
Weave in all ends.
With sewing needle and matching thread, sew 2 buttons to each side of Handles as shown in photo.
