Samantha, where are you? called Mrs. Edwards as she walked into her house.

Im up here in my room, Mom, replied Samantha.

Samantha was sitting on her bed, doing her homework. She was thinking, Only three more math problems, and I can go out and play withthe kids. Through the open window, she could hear her friends playing outside. Just then, her mother walked into the room.

Mrs. Edwards said, Samantha, guess what? I was talking to Aunt Betty today, and she said that your cousin Nathan is going back to camp this year, and if you are still thinking of going to camp this summer, you should look into it now. She said we should go online. Remember how we talked about you going away to camp this summer and all the fun things you will be able to do?

You know, Mom, some of my friends mentioned going to summer camp just the other day, replied Samantha, and added, Riley went to a theater camp last summer and loved it. Shes going back. I dont know much about camps. I wonder what kind of other camps there are. Where does Nathan go?

Nathan was her cousin who lived about two hours away. He was three years older than Samantha, and she liked him a lot. They had fun when they visited.

Ill find out, Samanthas mother replied as she left the room to call Aunt Betty. Then she added, When you finish your homework, come downstairs, and well discuss camp with Daddy and go online.

Samantha sat there, looking out the window, and thought, Do I reallywant to go to overnight camp? Im not sure. Well, I guess Ill look at thecamps online and see what they say. She began twisting a strand of her brown, curly hair with her finger. It was something Samantha always did when she was thinking, and today she had a lot to think about.

Samantha Edwards had never been away from home before except to sleep at a friends house. Now she was thinking about choosing an overnight camp, where she would spend part of her summer.

Samantha went downstairs to the computer. She searched for summer camps and thought, I never knew there were so many kinds of camps.

She decided to narrow the search to camps in her state. There were so many kinds of camps: girls camps, boys camps, co-ed camps, sports camps, adventure and travel camps, theater camps like where Riley went, religious camps, Girl Scout and Boy Scout camps, and camps for special needs children.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwards were sitting at the kitchen table, reading their mail, when Samantha walked into the room. Hi, Dad. Guess what Ive been doing!

Her father looked up at her and said, What?

Ive been looking up summer camps on the Internet. There are sooo many camps, like sports camps, theater camps, Girl Scout camps, all girls camps. There is a camp for kids who love horseback riding, too, she said.

Mrs. Edwards said, You like to ride horses. Remember the time you went with Uncle Tommy and loved it?

Samantha replied, Yes, but, there was another camp just for learning to play tennis. It would be nice to learn to play tennis. She added, I dont know much about any of them and wouldnt know how to choose one!

You know, Samantha, said her dad, when I was young, I went to a great camp that had a little bit of everything. It was called Camp Sandalfoot.

Oh, we got to do everythingarts and crafts, sports, swimming, cookouts, campfiresand we sang the greatest songs.

Samantha and Mrs. Edwards laughed as he burst into song. 'Roundthe campfire, neath the stars so bright. Let us sing a special song tonight. Boy, does that bring back wonderful memories.

Dad, said Samantha, I think Id like to go to a camp like yours.

Her father answered, Why dont you go back to the computer and look up traditional camps in our state and see what comes up. Print out some that arent too far from here.

Samantha went back to the computer and printed out a list of six traditional overnight camps that were in her state. She brought the list to her parents.

Heres one thats like Daddys camp, said Mrs. Edwards. Its called Camp Trailwinds.
