Briefing
Dear Friends,
This is a book of beginningsmy own personal letters. It was actually on the job training. I never found a manual of how to in the first years of ministering... or since then!
In college we learned formulas, but we learned no recipes for beginners in Gods work. Our great advantage was to have God... only! He has more patience than we ever dreamed. As children in their growing cycles, we had to begin. First we rolled over, then we learn to sit up, soon we were walking around the furniture, and finally we are on our feet, walking toward our parents.
Many times our Heavenly Parent steadies us when we fall. He picks us up, dusts us off, and puts us on our feet again. He never gives up on His children.
Don and I have never known what normal is, but for us its never been one size fits all. We plunged into our first church assignment with all its unknowns, but our Divine Teacher was always going before us.
I hope you will see the chord of faith thats been weaving our lives from that first day until now. This is The Life That Wins.
Lets walk on water together, though we may need a drying off a few times.
Love,
Ruth Ann Polston

My Letters
My Dear Friends,
Jesus called the disciples friends, so thats what I call you. I had no intention to write a book or a series of my letters. Then you began to encourage me to do so. Now I feel compelled.
My son, Steve, gave me a word from the Lord: As you have asked, so it is, and so it is, it will be, and it will remain.
So, yes! Im writing a series of my Letters from Ruth Ann. Some remember my release and forgiveness book. It is now being revised. Another book will soon be edited on relationships.
Our latest challenge is a web page, which is now up and running. We have heard from many who have already heard Don in you tube.
This is my first fall not to teach a weekly Bible study in many years. It was time for me to pass the baton and a very capable lady was prepared.
Now my Sword is my pen and my voice. Hopefully there is nothing in my pen which does not magnify Christ.
We covet your prayers as we plunge into the technological world so even remote places may hear and heed.
Thank you for so much encouragement just when my hands begin to hang. The extended family of Christ is drawing us together for such a time as this. Feel free to add your friends to the website www.donhpolston.com. The light is unnecessary without the dark.
Love you deeply,
Ruth Ann
Our First Church
The One-Room Schoolhouse
I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms...
Hosea 11:3
Dear Friends,
Arent you glad that God doesnt push us all the way to heaven? Come to think of it, God has pushed me lots, but He knows when to make it gentle. So take His other arm and well walk down memory lane.
Our first church wasnt what youd call a mega-church. Why did we go there? The district leaders asked us. Perhaps they thought we couldnt hurt it.
Our first glimpse of the one-room schoolhouse was a surprise. This cant be it! Our church is down the block. A room in the back had housed turkeys.
Mrs. Duncan, a dear lady, played the piano (she looked through her bifocals to find the notes and lost chords, which will never be found till you get to heaven); a lady played drums with fervor (long before drums were the favorite instrument in the church); and a pot-bellied stove was in the middle of the sanctuary. If you were cold-blooded you could sit close to the fire. If not, you could move near the wall. The janitor woke up to stoke the dwindling fire when the altar call was given.
Soon I was on the piano bench giving Don his sound effects, which made him famous. All right! We know it was his preaching.
Don wanted a white church, so he formed a group of happy men (who I called the chain gang) and they painted the church whiteinside and out! We also got new paper, new shades, and even a gas furnace with a loud blower. It was much better than stoking one.
The turkeys were gone from the back room, but they left droppings everywhere. Don looked at it and said, Perfect! It will make a great Sunday School class. What to do! Nothing in his ministerial training said a word about this. The procedure goes like this: clean, scrub, and scour. Then paint, paint, paint, and add donated pews and a piano for Ruth Ann.

Our First Parsonage: Part I
Without Visible Supply
My Dear Friends,
Thank you for the emails. Im glad you liked hearing about our first church. I hope you will like hearing about our first parsonage.
Before we go there, Id like to share a couple secrets. You may already know them. Secret one: To him that hath, to him shall be given... (Mark 4:25). It doesnt seem fair, does it? May I tell you what it means to us?
