I alsooccasionally use reused condiment jars (like pickle jars), sauce jars (likespaghetti sauce jars), or glass soda bottles with the labels removed. Obviously,be sure to wash out the jar before filling it, even if its a brand-new masonjar. When filling, note the following amount of mix persize of jar: Quart canning jar about 4 cups Pint canning jar about 2 cups Half pint canning jar about 1 cup Pickle jar about 3 cups Sauce jar about 3 cups Soda bottle (classic Coke bottle size) about 1 cup
For the recipes in which the ingredients should be mixed,simply combine the ingredients in a medium-sized bowl and then funnel themixture into the jar. If you need to, pack down the mixture to make sure all ofit fits inside the jar.
Of course, the skyis the limit, so use your imagination! The lid: Spray paint the lid, giving it a couple of daysto dry before using Place a piece of fabric over the lid afterfilling the jar and tie a ribbon, twine, raffia, or yarn around the neck of thejar.
