Foreword
The greatest shotmakers that have ever played the game of golf are from Texas. This is because of the great variety of courses (public, semiprivate, private) we play here, the different grasses, fluctuating weather, and the varying conditions of courses.
These conditions force golfers from Texas to improvise and to learn lots of different kinds of shots for all the different situations he or she will face.
That's why Texas is such a great place to live and learn the game, and why I was fortunate to have grown up here and learned to play golf in Texas like I did.
This book, which covers every course in the state, should be an invaluable guide to those who love to play golf in the Lone Star State.

Preface
Dear Golfer:
Welcome to The Texas Golf Guide, your most complete source of great golfing information in the Lone Star State.
No matter if you're a longtime Texas resident, or one of the thousands of newcomers who arrive each week, you doubtlessly noted the great number and variety of golf courses in our state, along with the year-round golf weather which prevails in most of the regions.
The idea behind this book was simple. To give golfers, along with those who know and love one, the basic information about every public and private course in Texas, nearly 800 in all. Of course, every course isn't for every player. Some are very hard, some are easy, some are very expensive, while others are a real bargain. There are courses which are exclusively private, open only to a privileged few, while others welcome all golfers. But the plan is to present every course in the state and let you, the golfing public, decide which you would like to play.
Along with the course listings, you'll also read about the rich golf history in this state. You'll learn about the many legends in Texas, from Byron Nelson and Jackie Burke to Ben Crenshaw and Lee Trevino, who wrote the foreword for this book. There is also a listing of the major championships in Texas, great golfing moments, and a Texas-tough trivia quiz. The hope is that you'll enjoy this book and use it as a handy resource tool for your Lone Star golfing experiences.
