Today when husband Nate came home from town, he had a surprise for me. I went out to help unhitch the horse. He smilingly hid something behind his back and asked, "Which hand do you want?"
As usual, I chose the wrong hand, but he gave it to me anyway. A brand-new journal with shiny leather covers! Crisp, clean white pages, waiting to be filled.
My fingers were itching to start writing, but I had to wait. First I helped Nate unhitch the horse and carriage, got two-and-a-half-year-old Dora interested in playing with her toy shovel and bucket in the sandbox, and rocked both babies, Amanda and Peter, to sleep.
I've been wanting to buy another diary all summer. But we were so busy that trips to town were few and far between, and somehow I never got one until now.
Meanwhile, I missed not being able to jot down my thoughts and feelings and to write about our twin babies. They've passed the half-year mark and are at a cute and lovable age. Peter now weighs eighteen pounds, is healthy and robust, and every day looks more like a miniature version of Natered hair, ruddy complexion, and the same tilt to the nose.
Sweet, dark-haired little Amanda has a hard time keeping up with Peter. She tilts the scales at barely fifteen

pounds. But the doctor say's she's doing well despite the fact that she has glutaric aciduria and must be on a low protein diet. Now if we can only keep her glutaric acid levels from going too high! We'll do our part, but it's all in God's hands, ''and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God."
