Book 1: Steveville
Day 1:
We need to talk aboutvillages. I have searched for a village for a really long time. When I say long time, I mean LONG time. So many nights have passedthat I can barely remember the first night that I came intoexistence.
I shuddered at the memory of those endless, boring nights spent hiding from the terrible creatures that lurkedin the night.
My hope was that if I found a village I wouldbe safe from the monsters. Surely the villagers would know how tokeep them away. My least favorite were the spiders. I did not likehow they would jump down at me from above and then run toward mewith their red, glowing eyes.
Eventually, I had collected enough wool tomake a bed. I knew that this would help the nights pass morequickly. I had tried to capture a sheep to make him my pet but hewas not interested in following me at all. He ate his grass andpretended that I did not exist. No matter what types of flowers andsaplings I offered him, he continued to ignore me.
I do not like sheep much anyway.
I gathered my wool and crafted a bed. Thatmade the nights pass much faster. They seemed to last only aninstant.
From where I am standing I can see a village. It is close enough that I could reach it by nightfall, but a partof me is scared. I want to enter within the safety of theirmonster-free zone, but I have no idea where I would stay.
Would one of the villagers allow me to stayin their home for the night? I do not like the idea of intruding ona stranger.
I have always thought that it would beexciting to be the new friend in a neighborhood. Now that it isgoing to be real, I am a little nervous about what they might thinkof me.
Come on! I jumped back and forth on theballs of my feet. You are Steve! Everybody loves you! This villageis going to be called Steveville in no time!
I like to give myself pep talks sometimes. Iguess that is a side effect of being alone so often.
All of that is about to change. I am about tomove into a new neighborhood. A neighborhood with an actualvillage. I will not have to talk to myself any longer. I will haveplenty of villagers to spend every day with.
I could see the teeny tiny villagers movingabout, running from building to building, managing the gardens, andtalking with one another. I could even see some children scuttlingaround, their quick little feet carrying them down the streets at afrightening speed.
I wondered if I had ever been that tiny. Asfar as I could remember I had always been the same size. I hadalways had an over-large block head, the same teal shirt with pantsthat were slightly darker and brown hair. Every day I wore the sameoutfit. That was fine with me. Once I had armor, I could dresshowever I wanted.
I secretly wanted the beautiful blue diamondarmor. I knew that this was a silly wish. I had no idea where tofind diamonds. My friend, Alex, had two pieces of diamond left fromthe pickax that she made. She offered them to me before my journeybut I told her that I wanted to find them on my own. She said itwould be a long time before I found diamonds. This did not keep mefrom dreaming that one day I would have a full suit of armor madeout of the strongest material available.
I decided that entering the village today wasa bad idea. What would my new neighbors think of me if I did noteven have my own home? I could not simply move in to the villageand take over one of theirs for myself. I do not think that theywould be very fond of that idea.
What I really wanted was a castle. I checkedmy inventory. I definitely did not have enough cobblestone for acastle. I might have enough for a small square farmhouse with a fewwindows.
I chuckled to myself. What would thevillagers do if I built a big castle right in the center oftown?
Hi, everybody! I pretended to speak to mynew neighbors. Welcome to Castle de Steve. By the way, Ive namedthe town Steveville. I hope you dont mind. I giggled.
I do not think the villagers would like thatvery much. I think that the priests are normally in charge of thevillages. I did not want to offend the priest on my first day.
I watched as they ran in and out of eachothers houses, doors banging, and no regard for ownership orprivacy.
Never mind. I muttered. I decided that Iwas not going to build my castle in the village. I would build asafe distance away, close enough to trade for vegetables when I washungry but far enough away that they might think twice beforevisiting.
Maybe I would install iron doors. I wouldneed a lot more iron for that. Though, it would prevent all sortsof intruders. Especially zombies. Villagers too. I chuckled at thethought.
I really hope that this neighborhood does nothave zombies. My last home had a lot of zombies. They areincredibly nosy and were always banging on my door. I do not thinkthat villages would have monsters.
I would have to wait and see.
Day 2:
This neighborhood has zombies too. This neighborhoodhas a LOT of zombies. They were all over the place last night.
I had built a small cobblestone house beforenightfall and was disappointed to know that the zombies appearedhere just like any other place.
They were so close that I could not evensleep. Their moaning and groaning kept me awake all night. I wastempted to go outside and tell them to go away, but I was tooexhausted and hungry to risk a confrontation.
Today I visited the village. I met a few ofmy neighbors who were not overly friendly. They did not seem toointerested in the items that I offered to trade. To be honest, Ihad a feeling that they were only offering me boring items thatthey did not care about. I wondered what it would take to get themto trade something truly valuable.
What do you think it would take to get anenchanted book?
I did eventually trade for some carrots.Alright, I traded for a lot of carrots.
I was really hungry. I did not have any otherway to gather food, being so new to the area. I approached a nearbyfarmer and asked if he could spare a few crops. Thankfully, he hadmany to spare and I soon found myself the owner of a large amountof carrots. He was not interested in sharing potatoes. Maybeanother time.
I was so hungry.
I ate until I was full. For the first time indays I was not hungry. It was a wonderful feeling. I kept the extracarrots with the hope that I would be able to plant them in agarden of my own.
Do you think that the farmers would beinterested in buying my crops if I planted my own garden?
Tonight when I go to sleep I will think aboutthe best way for me to keep a large supply of food. I do not thinkI could afford to keep trading every time I need something toeat.
Day 3:
Last night I decided that the best solution was tocreate a garden of my own.
I am a terrible farmer. The problem is that Iusually plant my crops along the edge of a river in some sort ofwinding design and only half of them ever grow.
Why do the villagers have to be so good atit?
