Players use maps to help them find their way in the game. Maps help players return to their homes or go somewhere new.

Finished maps are filled with colors.

There are many kinds of maps in Minecraft . An explorer map starts out brown. As a player explores, the map fills with color.

Players can buy an explorer map from characters called map experts. Players can find map experts in villages.

Players might find a map underwater. Some shipwrecks have chests with treasure maps inside.

Shipwrecks are one place players may find maps.

Another way to get a map is to make one. Players will need paper. They can make paper by crushing sugarcane.

Players can find sugarcane on grass, dirt, or sand.

Players also need a compass. They can build a compass with the Minecraft materials iron ingots and redstone dust.

Redstone dust can be used to make many things in Minecraft .

Then players are ready to explore. They need to explore to finish their maps. Finished maps are filled with colors, symbols, and landmarks.
