We have maps that can help us when we are lost. But can you imagine what it must have been like to board a ship, leave land behind, and venture into the unknown? What makes somebody go on an adventure when there are so many dangers to think about? From to curiosity, humans have always pushed the boundaries in the name of exploration and adventure. Take a step into the unknown, and read all about the lives of explorers and adventurers and some of the they went on LEIF ERIKSON THE LUCKY Born: Around 970980 Died: 1020 Leif Erikson was a who was born in Iceland but grew up in Greenland. His father, Erik the Red, had sailed from Iceland to Greenland to make a new home for Vikings. Erik the Red was an explorer, and Leif Erikson took after his father. Around the year 1000, Erikson heard of a new land from an Icelander called Bjarni.
Bjarni had spotted a land to the west during a storm, but he didnt land there. Erikson decided that he would land there. With a crew of 35 men, Erikson left Greenland to search for the new land. Erikson led his crew on a long and dangerous voyage. Thanks to Eriksons leadership, they safely landed on what we now call North America. Although people were living in North America, Erikson and his crew were the first people from Europe to set foot there.
Erikson called the land Vinland because the grapes or berries that grew there could be used to make wine. Erikson left Vinland after a few months to return to Greenland. He was given the name Leif Erikson the Lucky because he was lucky to cross the dangerous sea and make it to Vinland alive. WE ARE ALL LEADERS, WHETHER WE WANT

When they came back, Ma He was curious about the journey they had been on. When Ma He was 11 years old, the Ming army attacked Yunnan. Ma He was taken to be a servant for Prince Zhu Di. Ma He worked very hard for Prince Zhu Di. Prince Zhu Di decided to make Ma He an and changed his name to Zheng He. Prince Zhu Di became and wanted to explore and trade with other countries of the world.
Zheng He was chosen to be the of ships. There were around 200 ships in the fleet and around 27,000 crew members. Zheng He and his fleet went on seven voyages. They explored Asia and even went as far as Africa to trade Chinese goods. Zheng He spent lots of time in different areas and learned about different . On the last voyage, Zheng He finally got to go on Hajj, just like his grandfather and father.

OF LIGHT VAPORS. - ZHENG HE SACAGAWEA Born: 1788 Died: 1812 Sacagawea was part of a Native American tribe called the Shoshone. When she was 12 years old, she was kidnapped by another tribe called the Hidatsa. Explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark came to the Hidatsa tribe. They were going on an expedition across North America and needed help.
Sacagawea joined Lewis and Clark on their expedition. Some of North America was unexplored by Europeans at this time, but Sacagawea knew a lot about the plants and of the area. She was able to find plants that were safe to eat and help Lewis and Clark find the right path. She also became an for Lewis and Clark, as she spoke the languages of the nearby tribes. Sacagawea didnt go on the expedition alone; she took her baby son with her. She traveled with him on her back.
Although Lewis and Clark led the expedition, they were impressed by Sacagaweas knowledge and called her a pilot in their travel journals. SACAGAWEA HAS BEEN OF GREAT

Like many explorers of the time, Shackleton set his sights on the South Pole. Shackleton and his crew became the first people to climb Mount Erebus, which is in Antarctica near the South Pole. Soon, other explorers reached the South Pole and Shackleton wanted to be one of them. Shackleton began an expedition with a crew of 27 people. They set out on a ship called the Endurance with plans to be the first people to cross Antarctica by going past the South Pole. But things went horribly wrong.
When they got close to Antarctica, the Endurance became trapped in ice. Shackleton and his crew had no choice but to leave the ship. They set up camps on ice and drifted to Elephant Island. Shackleton and five other crew members took a lifeboat and sailed on the dangerous sea to look for help. It was a huge risk, but it paid off. They sailed for 800 miles (1,287 km) before getting help and rescuing the rest of the crew from Elephant Island.
