W e are two Christmas nerds who love great and sensational flavors, who thrive among ladles and casseroles, and who gladly throw the holiday parties. On the outside, we probably appear quite different from one another. Jens gladly digs deep into the lovely heritage of our Swedish food as well as into the kitchens of other cultures, and he doesnt balk at any part of the animal. Johanna is constantly looking for new flavors and dishes that are both childishly simple and inventive, but often ends up in the Italian saucepanand is quite happy there.

The love for clean and lovingly cooked food unites us. We have both been writing about food for the past century and our passion for food reaches its devoted, joyful peak every month of December when gluttony and revelry are socially acceptable and the spirit of tradition is strong. Our collaboration first began with the Christmas bun wreath that graces the cover of this book. That was fall 2010 and we were asked to do a food report together for a monthly magazine. We were told to write about Christmas, food, and crafts and preferably with some happy innovation. During our very first tentative meeting we hatched the idea to make a wreath out of a metal clothes hangerand there have since been a number of very giggly meetings.

It wasnt long before we began to dream about doing a book together. A Christmas book where everything would find room: the traditional and the modern, classic parade dishes and new dishes where seasonal ingredients would be put to the best usesweet, savory, strong, and fresh. A book in which all the highlights of the month of December would be includedeverything from baked dishes to advent breakfast to something to munch on when you ring in the new year. Weve had loads of fun along the way! And now youre holding our combined Christmas dream! We wish you and yours a merry Christmas, a happy new year, and a lot of tasty treats in between! Use wire cutters to cut open the circle at one side of the hangers hook. Thread the most Christmassy thing you can find at home on to it.

Why not some saffron buns from the freezer? Leave a few inches of the metal wire free, so you can close up the circle and the wreath is ready to be hung up.
