WRITING IS A PROCESS THAT STARTS with the authors irresistible urge to make his or her own experience accessible to as many interested people as possibleto enthuse them, and to present information that is both engaging and immediately useful.

That Andreas Lentz of the publishing house Neue Erde gave me the initial green light for this book has been a great honor for me, and I am filled with joy and gratitude that the project has succeeded and gone on to British and then to American editions.

The conductor in the orchestra of energies that brought this book about, author and crystal expert Michael Gienger, was not only a coinitiator of the crystal wand project; he also provided valuable introductions to this undertaking and contributed in many other significant ways. Whether in the management of illustrations, in an editorial capacity, or where suggestions for improvements were concerned, he always hit the right note. In addition, the descriptions of the qualities of crystals came from him.

With respect to the crystals themselves, the following contributors to the original German edition of the book should be acknowledged:

Marco Schreier, along with his team in Ludwigsburg, was willing, more than a decade ago, to polish crystals into the shape of wands and keep them in stock, even during quiet periods. Sabine Schneider-Kuehnle was a saving angel during a few explosive stages of development. The Diederichs family in Frauenberg also worked hard to expand the selection of crystal wands and provided the large range availabletoday. They did not shy away from efforts to make available certainrare types of crystals. Both Walter von Holst and Kerstin Wagner inStuttgart helped me with excellent consultations on crystals. MonikaGrundmann gave me good feedback, and in particular it was Monikawith her Crystal Balance concept whom I thank for the fact that thewands have now achieved extensive application in wellness, cosmetics,and other therapies.

Ines Blersch supplied us with the wonderful photographic contributionsthat appear in this book. I was especially impressed with theinput of Anja Birkholz, who, as the model you see here, would stillradiate a fresh and natural quality, even after an eight-hour storm offlash photography. The entire work was then taken by Fred Hagenederand magically transformed into a very accomplished layout. As with allmy previous books, my dear friend Thomas Gutsche gave me lots of histime to keep the computer and internet access runningthis despitehis demanding job and family commitments. Gina Feder and AlexanderZentgraf at their Galeria & Cantina in Murnau chose a special task, asthey were sometimes the only ones able to convince me, through liberaldoses of art and good red wine, that not everything that was circlingaround inside my head really needed to be put on paper.

INTRODUCTION

IMAGINE A SIMPLE BUT AMAZINGLY EFFECTIVE practice that fosters good health and creates a sense of well-beingsomething that can be adapted to virtually any situation, any age... something in the service of love...

This can be accomplished very easily with crystal wands, which can be used to support massage work and reflexology, to enhance acupuncture and acupressure, to balance the chakras, and much more. In fact, whatever healing modality you practice on yourself or on others, crystal wands can enhance the overall effects.

Michael Giengers 2015 book Crystal and Stone Massage introduced the basic methods of applying crystals for massage, and he has been a major influence on my own work. Michael was one of the worlds leading experts on the use of crystals, and since publication of his book Crystal and Stone Massage in the United States, interest in the use of crystals in massage and in other healing applications has grown exponentially, such that a book that specifically considers crystal wands is now warranted; that book you hold in your hands.

The story of how I came to write this book starts in the summer of 1996. I was sitting with Michael in his garden, discussing the various ways we could make our treatments more effective. We had both discovered that reflexology, which we had each practiced for many years, obtains additional positive effects when combined with the use of crystals. We wanted to use our growing knowledge of and experience with these crystalline mineral treasures of the earth in a more intense way, through direct physical contact. At the time we both already had considerable experience with the laying on of crystals, spheres, and tumbled stones in the course of energetic treatments. However, the new element in all of this was the use of crystal wands. Whereas the rounded end of a wand can be used almost like a crystal sphere in massage work, the pointed end can be used to target acupressure points or to trace the meridians. In addition, by means of a simple energetic procedure, one can identify which type of crystal wand is suitable for a particular treatment or application. Massages thus indisputably become more effective. We agreed that a book on this very subject was much needed.

Massage with crystals has become a widely acknowledged modality in the field of wellness and natural therapy. Monika Grundmanns book Crystal Balance, and the gem oils she developed, are forging new paths in cosmetics and wellness. Ricky Welchs book Aurum Manus recognized crystals as an effective treatment for tinnitus and migraine, while the book Joya: Crystal Massage for Everyone, written by Michael Gienger and Ulrich Metz, introduced a massage roller invented by Metz that has spread across Europe like wildfire. These are but a few of the many offerings that explore the use of crystals.
