Introduction
Shrimp is by far the most delicious and popular types of seafood made today! It is estimated that over 900 million pounds of shrimp are prepared and eaten in the United States alone. Whether it is fried, steamed, sauted or barbecued, there are plenty of different ways to prepare homemade shrimp today. The problem is that most people often make the mistake of either undercooking or overcooking shrimp. Hopefully by the end of this cookbook, you will learn to avoid making these common mistakes to make delicious shrimp dishes that will impress all who try it.
By the end of this cookbook, I hope that you learn how to prepare homemade shrimp dishes with the help of over 25 of the most delicious shrimp recipes that you will find anywhere. Not only will you learn how to properly prepare shrimp, but you will learn how to prepare new shrimp dishes to make for the entire family.
So, lets stop wasting time and get to cooking some shrimp!
Honey and Walnut Shrimp
This Chinese style shrimp is made with the flavors of Hong Kong in mind. Battered shrimp tossed in a creamy sauce, this is a dish that is hard to say no to.
Makes: 4 servings
Total Prep Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of water
- 2/3 cup of white sugar
- cup of walnuts, chopped
- 4 egg whites
- 2/3 cup of mochiko
- cup of mayonnaise
- 1 pound of shrimp, peeled
- 2 Tbsp. of honey
- 1 Tbsp. of sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup of vegetable oil, for frying
Directions:
1. In a saucepan set over medium heat, add in the water and white sugar. Stir well to mix. Allow to come to a boil. Add in the chopped walnuts. Cook for 2 minutes. Drain and transfer the walnuts onto a plate lined with paper towels to drain.
2. In a bowl, add in the egg whites. Whisk until foamy. Add in the mochiko. Continue to whisk until paste like in consistency.
3. In a skillet set over medium to high heat, add in the vegetable oil.
4. Dip the shrimp in the batter and transfer immediately into the hot oil. Fry for 5 minutes or until golden. Drain the shrimp on a plate lined with paper towels.
5. In a bowl, add in the mayonnaise, honey and condensed milk. Whisk until smooth in consistency. Add in the drained shrimp. Toss well to coat.
6. Sprinkle the candied walnuts over the shrimp.
7. Serve immediately.
Slow Cooker Shrimp Jambalaya
This is a recipe I have personally experimented with over the years. However, the end result is a delicious shrimp dish that is perfect to come home to after a long day at the office.
Makes: 12 servings
Total Prep Time: 8 hours and 20 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of chicken breasts, boneless, skinless, cut into halves and cut into pieces
- 1 pound of andouille sausage, thinly sliced
- 1, 28 ounce can of tomatoes, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 cup of celery
- 1 cup of chicken broth
- 2 tsp. of dried oregano
- 2 tsp. of dried parsley
- 2 tsp. of Cajun seasoning
- 1 tsp. of cayenne pepper
- tsp. of dried thyme
- 1 pound of shrimp, cooked and without tails
Directions:
1. In a slow cooker, add in the chicken pieces, sliced sausage, chopped tomatoes, onion, chopped green bell pepper, chopped celery and chicken broth. Stir well to mix.
2. Add in the dried oregano, dried parsley, Cajun seasoning, cayenne pepper and dried thyme. Stir well until evenly blended.
3. Cover and cook on the lowest setting for 7 to 8 hours or on the highest setting for 3 to 4 hours.
4. During the last 30 minutes of cooking, add in the cooked shrimp.
5. Serve.
Toscana Soup
If you need a warm and filling meal to serve during the cold winter months, then look no further! This is a dish that will warm every inch of your body.
Makes: 6 servings
Total Prep Time: 1 hour
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of shrimp, peeled and chopped
- 1 tsp. of crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/3 cup of bacon bits
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 russet potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 3, 8 ounce cans of low sodium vegetable broth
- 2 cups of water
- cup of heavy whipping cream
- cup of whole milk
- 1 cup of kale, chopped
Directions:
1. In a skillet set over medium to high heat, add in the shrimp and crushed red pepper flakes. Cook for 5 minutes or until the shrimp is bright pink. Transfer into a bowl and set aside.
2. In the same skillet, add in the bacon bits. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until crispy. Add in the minced garlic and onions. Cook for 5 to 10 minutes or until caramelized. Transfer into a stockpot.
3. In the stockpot, add in the shrimp, low sodium vegetable broth and water. Allow to come to a boil.
4. Add in the potatoes and chopped kale. Continue to cook for 15 to 20 minutes or until the potatoes are soft.
5. Add in the heavy whipping cream and whole milk. Continue to cook for 3 to 5 minutes.
6. Remove from heat and serve immediately.
Shrimp Au Gratin
If you want to impress your dinner guests with a seafood dish that is absolutely delicious, then this is the perfect dish for you to prepare.
Makes: 8 servings
Total Prep Time: 1 hour and 20 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, seeds removed and chopped
- 1 cup of butter, evenly divided
- 1 cup of white flour, evenly divided
- 1 pound of lumpy crabmeat
- 4 cups of water
- 1 pound of shrimp, peeled
- pound of scallops
- pound of flounder fillets
- 3 cups of whole milk
- 1 cup of sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 Tbsp. of distilled white vinegar
- 1 tsp. of Worcestershire sauce
- tsp. of salt
- Dash of black pepper
- cup of grated Parmesan cheese
Directions:
1. In a skillet set over medium heat, add in the onion, cup of butter and chopped green bell pepper. Cook for 5 minutes or until soft. Add in cup of white flour. Whisk until smooth in consistency. Cook for 10 minutes.
