THE ULTIMATE WELLBEING PLAN FOR
RADIANT SKIN IN 6 WEEKS
For my girls all of you
Contents
Caring for skin has been a lifelong passion. Ive spent the last thirty years researching and writing about how to achieve a healthy, more radiant-looking complexion. In studying the skin, Ive been fortunate to work with world class academics and leading researchers to discern the very best skincare advice. This has led me to create the fool-proof plan in this book to literally eat your way to better skin.
SKIN is all about how to create smoother, clearer, softer and younger-looking skin at any age (Im in my fifties and firmly believe its never too late to see a visible difference). of the book is my six-week plan, with each week focussing on a different aspect of skincare from detox and exfoliation, cleansing and healing, to nourishing, balance and, finally, radiance and maintenance. With this six-week skin plan also comes the added benefits of better health, improved energy levels, sounder sleep and an overall boost to your wellbeing.
, but they are sure to be enjoyed when you arent following the plan, too. This surely is the most enjoyable way to eat yourself beautiful!
Our skin is a powerful outward expression of whats happening inside. So a healthy outer glow is dependent on a healthy internal body. It really is a win-win. Feeding our faces also feeds every single cell in our body, from brain cells to muscle fibres, with a positive boost to our immune system along the way. Visible skin disorders may be a manifestation that all is not well beneath the surface, so as well as helping to create a gorgeously healthy glow, this simple six-week plan is also likely to leave you feeling so much better too. Ive also included advice for sorting out troublesome skin issues, from early adolescent breakouts to menopausal wrinkles, as well as dietary and practical skincare tips to help with eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and much more.
As you will read in this book, Im passionate about dispelling beauty myths and sorting out fact from fiction, no easy task given the obfuscation and confusion amidst a mass of online information. Creating a range of skincare with worldwide acclaim for Liz Earle Beauty Co. certainly helped to give me an insight into the realities of product formulation and a genuine knowledge of what does (and doesnt) work.
I have a deep love and respect for natural ingredients, including plant oils and botanicals, and especially love to use many of these fabulous skin savers in recipes in this book. From seed oils such as evening primrose oil (Rigel seed is the most effective kind) to high-altitude lavender (it has the best scent), nature has so many wonderful skin-caring ingredients that are also renewable and sustainable for our planet. From the A-Z of argan oil to zaatar herbs, Im a big fan of potent plants.
So it may come as something of a surprise to read that I also advocate turning to conventional medicine to treat acute adolescent acne (in my view, absolutely essential to prevent permanent skin scarring) and to hear that after many years of in-depth study, I agree with the consensus of researchers who say that the parabens used in skincare are not only safe, but desirable (see for more information on this).
If I have learnt one thing over the decades, it is that there is always more to learn. My research has taken me all over the world, from the hallowed halls of Harvard Medical School to indigenous tribeswomen in Kenya, Uganda and Malawi. From cutting-edge academia to ancient folklore, Ive distilled the very essence of what our skin really needs to radiate with the glow of good health. Youll find much of what Ive learnt on these pages, as well as further resources for personal follow-up and supplier information at the back of this book (see ). You wont find many specific beauty product references on these pages though, as I believe its up to you to take the principles of what Im about to share and apply it to your own lifestyle, budget and personal preference. I think its important for you to feel empowered to personalise your own regime and not be dictated to with a prescriptive rigidity that is all too common in the beauty industry.
As well as looking at what we put onto our skin, so much of what makes us look and feel beautiful comes from what we put into our bodies, in the form of food and drink, as well as the way we live. My focus has always been on making feel-good-food that the whole family will love to eat, as well as creating successful eating strategies to give us the glow of great skin. I have five children, two in their twenties, two in their teens and a tiny tot for good measure so I make all my recipes with a broad range of ages in mind. You can be sure that these amazing recipes, from breakfasts to brunch, lunch, skin snacks right through to supper dishes and more, have been tested and approved by my very own informal tasting committee. If we dont all love a recipe, I change it and tweak it to make it just perfect.
The second part of this book is all about eating for better skin and I encourage low-carb, low-sugar, high-quality protein meals, with lots of healthy skin-saving fats and oils, probiotics and some supplements, as well as lots of fresh vegetables (mostly green) and certain fruits (such as anthocyanin-rich berries) too. Accessible and easy to make, many of my recipes in this book are time-tested favourites I turn to time and time again at home.
In my recipes I have provided nutritional advice including calorie counts per serving and dietary guidance as shown by:
VEGETARIAN
DAIRY-FREE
GLUTEN-FREE
These guides do not include ingredients or sides offerered as serving suggestions or tips, so keep this in mind if you are watching your calorie intake or if you have allergy intolerances.
I hope you love following my six-week plan to radiance. Id love to hear how you get on so do please share your success stories along the way using #skinfood to show and inspire others that fabulous skin is truly achievable at any age youll find my details .

PART ONE:
SIX-WEEK PLAN
Start your plan with a big clear-out. Help rid not only your cupboards but also your body of unwanted substances that hinder the skin and make a fresh start. Stock-up on the more internally cleansing ingredients, such as green leafy veggies, fresh ginger root and plain live yoghurt. Invest in a water filter jug if you dont already have one and be prepared to enjoy some new foods.
This week you may like to get your day off to a skin-saving start with my Cinnamon-toasted Oats with Yoghurt and Summer Fruit () are simply sensational!
