Histamine and H1-receptor antagonists in allergic disease: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Histamine and H1-receptor antagonists in allergic disease" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

This work provides comprehensive, up-to-date information on histamine receptors and H1-receptor antagonists, reviewing fundamental science and presenting advances in therapy. It discusses novel H1-receptor antagonists, including loratadine, cetrizine and acrivastine, and examines the role of topical H1-antagonists such as levocabastine and azelastine. The clinical scientific basis of antagonistic use is explored.

SERIES INTRODUCTION
The decision to initiate a series of books on clinical allergy and immunology was based upon the need to create a library of texts useful for clinicians and scientists in these rapidly enlarging fields. There already are excellent textbooks providing overviews of the fields of allergy and immunology, and the scientific journals attempt to provide concise reviews of selected topics of interest. However, there is no library of books that takes relevant topics and expands them into texts for the express purpose of making them of interest to practicing physicians and researchers. Thus, this new series.
Clinical Allergy and Immunology will develop into the premier series of texts for our field. The initial books have addressed sinusitis, eosinophils, molecular biology, neuropeptides, provocation testing, and now histamine and its receptors. The benefactors of this series should be patients with allergic disorders because their physicians will now have a source of concise but authoritative summaries of a field. The other major benefactors will be clinicians. Despite the fact that allergy is the single most prevalent chronic disease suffered by humans, only a small number of medical schools incorporate allergy into their curricula, and many medical students are notably deficient in their knowledge of these diseases. As allergy is largely an outpatient specialty, few house officers see allergic patients other than those experiencing acute asthma or anaphylaxis. To clinicians,

this series offers the chance to develop an extensive knowledge about selected topics, each chosen for its clinical relevance.
Histamine holds a special place in allergy. It was the first mediator to be associated with allergic reactions, and was the first whose inhibition proved useful in the management of disease. Much success has accompanied the use of antihistamines, and scientists have continued to create new and safer antihistamines for clinical use. This book provides the most current and useful information on histamine and its antagonists. As with all others in the series, it satisfies needs in both clinical and research areas and should prove very helpful for providing new insights and new directions. We welcome this work to the series.
