How itWorks
In his medical practice, Dr. Dukan had somepatients who were attempting to lose weight. As he worked to helpthem achieve that goal, he began to challenge normal weight losstechniques. He saw that eating minimal calories and small portionswasnt working. He wanted to help his patients not only lose theweight that was hurting them physically and mentally, but also keepit off in the long run. Thus, the Dukan Diet was born.
The diet works on the premise that, in orderto be healthy and not carry too much body fat, you need to returnto eating the way our ancestors did. To do this, you have to cutout the processed, chemically enhanced foods of today and tradethem in for natural, unaltered and unprocessed foods that will giveyour body the health and nutrition it needs. Follow this way ofeating and youll not only lose weight, but youll keep it off aswell. The Dukan Diet also comes with the phrase,As much as you like. That means that there is no calculatingportion sizes and you dont have to quit eating if youre stillhungry. You can eat as much of the foods on the approved list asyou like.

4 Phases
The Dukan Diet is set up in four stages. Whenyou follow the progression, youll continuously lose weight withoutthe feeling deprived and hungry because the foods are high inprotein which means they fill you up. The four phases are: Phase#1 The Attack Phase This phase is just as aggressive as itsounds. You make a short, swift attack against the fat in your bodyby following a diet that consists of 72 foods that are proteinrich. This phase lasts 2-7 days and can melt off 2-3 kilograms(4-6.5 pounds).
It revs up your metabolism and puts you in optimalfat burning mode. Phase#2 The Cruise Phase This is essentially your main weight lossphase. Youll continue to see the scale go down, just not to theextent that you did in the attack phase. Ideally, you want to losea majority of your weight by aiming for a loss of one kilogram (2.2pounds) per week. During this period, youll alternate yourmenu. Some days youll eat Pure Proteins (PP) and other days youllinclude some of the 28 permitted vegetables with the proteins(PV).
Phase#3 The Consolidation Phase The intention of this phase is to get youready to switch your diet to one that is more balanced and easy tosustain long term. Certain foods are added back into your diet(such as fruits and breads). This phase is a little more relaxed than theprevious two phases but it still has enough structure to allow youcontinued weight loss as you approach your target weight. Youllremain in this phase ten days for every kg (2.2 pounds) youve lostso far. Phase#4 The Stabilization Phase This is the final stage of the Dukan Dietand, in it, you can eat what you like. However, you do have tofollow three essential guidelines to help you keep off the weightyouve lost.
