About the Author
Growing up in historic New England, it's easy to see how Blythe Camenson became an avid history buff. Surrounded by red brick and ivy, Victorian gingerbread, and quaint and picturesque seaports and harbors, the love of history became second nature to her. Through her travels overseas in Europe and the Middle East, her interests broadened.
Camenson works as a free-lance writer specializing in career and travel. She has written numerous articles for magazines and newspapers and, after spending eight years in the Middle East, she wrote the book, Working in the Persian GulfSurvival Secrets for Men and Women (The Real Story) (Desert Diamond Books, 1991). She also conducts and organizes workshops and seminars for writers.
The author has extensive teaching and counseling experience, most of it accumulated in the Middle East. She has taught English as a foreign language to university students in Riyadh and at Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, Oman. Camenson also worked as an educational counselor to Middle Eastern students, both in Kuwait and Washington, D.C. Her last posting overseas, as director of courses at the American Cultural Center in Baghdad, Iraq, ended after the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Nine days after

the invasion, Camenson was included in the first convoy from the U.S. embassy to be evacuated overland to the Jordanian border.
Camenson earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, with a double major in English and psychology, from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, in 1973. In 1976 she received her Master's of Education (M.Ed.) degree in counseling from Northeastern University, also in Boston.
