My thanks go to Denise Aguirre, Karen Mitchell, and Kay Roskam for their assistance in defining music therapy; Madelyn Berdes, my favorite "Phantom Dancer"; Mary Tokita and Michael Hackett, for their contributions to the UCLA Lab program, and to this book. The staffs and members of many associations in the arts deserveand havemy appreciation for providing resources and suggestions. Thanks, too, to Michael Urban, tireless editor.
