According to a spokesperson for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Using data from the FBI National Instant Criminal Background Checks System (NICS), which is a popular indicator for estimated firearms sales, background checks increased 94 percent over the past decade, with 2016 being the highest total since recordkeeping began in 1998. As youll read in Robert A. Sadowskis full new product report, Guns, Optics and Ammo, beginning on page 3, the news in handguns centers on the renowned 1911, a model that many of us are familiar with. This 106-year-old design continues to be popular and configured into a huge variety of models and calibers. One 1911 of note is the H9, from Hudson Manufacturing, a newcomer on the block. Part 1911, part striker fire, this 9mm handgun has a 1911-style grip and straight pull trigger, which translates to a low bore axis and less felt recoil. Its also modular, using a stainless steel slide and an insert chassis.
It has a capacity of fifteen in the clip, plus one in the chamber. In rifles, some of the biggest news comes from Savage, which now has the Modern Savage Rifle (MSR), a new AR platform series of riles that includes the MSR 15 Patrol, MSR 15 Recon, MSR 10 Hunter, and the MSR 10 Long Range. The MSR 15 models are chambered for .223 Rem/5.56x45mm NATO and feature .223 Wylde chambers. The MSR 10 models are chambered in .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor. In shotguns, CZ-USA has come out with trap and sporting clays shotguns that feature quality at affordable prices. Meanwhile, Browning has added to its Citori 725 series with high-end, luxurious Grade V and VII trap model shotguns.
And theres much more, as you shall see in the new products section. Editor Cassell (right) with son James after a morning of clays shooting.
