Preface
The 101 Receiver Drills book has been written for coaches and athletes at all competitive levels. Each of the 101 drills was selected for its ability to provide the coach with an effective learning environment for the fundamental skills and techniques attendant to receiver play.
For organizational purposes, the drills have been placed in one of nine chapters according to the primary developmental focus of the drill. Each drill offers football coaches a terrific teaching tool for providing their receivers with the requisite attributes for success. Many of the drills, however, involve more than one unique skill and address more than one aspect of receiver play. As a result, each coach should keep an open mind when incorporating these drills into his overall training program. Whenever necessary, he can make adjustments in the method he uses for conducting a drill in order to make that particular drill more appropriate for his specific situation.
The important point to remember is that the considered use of the drills presented in this book can have a positive impact on the success of a football team. Repetition and feedback are two of the key factors which will determine the extent of the effect that these drills will have. As a general rule, the drills are most effective when they are performed regularly as an integral part of a team's training program. A football coach can enhance the effectiveness of each drill by taking steps to ensure that each participant in a drill is given clear and immediate feedback regarding his performance in the drill.

Warm-Up Drills

Drill #1: Ball-Handling Drills
Objective: To provide an effective warm-up and teach the fundamentals of agility, foot quickness, and reactions.
Description:
1.
Air Dribble (refer to illustration): A receiver should hold the ball on the fat part of the ball and completely release the ball. He should catch the ball before it drops to the ground, continue performing this drill for 30 seconds, and then repeat it with the opposite hand. To build confidence, beginning players should not dribble too fast. They can increase their speed with practice.
2.Finger Roll (refer to illustration): A receiver should hold the ball at one end, with the ball below the hand. The ball should be rolled over on its back so that it sits on top of the hand with the palm still facing down. The ball should then be returned to its original position. This drill should be performed for at least one minute.
