INTRODUCTION Welcome to Hungry Girl 200 Under 200 Just Desserts! This book is filled with exactly what you think its filled with200 desserts with less than 200 calories each! The original Hungry Girl 200 Under 200 is one of my favorite HG books, and I REALLY wanted to expand on that less than 200 calories concept. I thoughtWOWwhy not create an entire book of recipes for decadent treats and desserts that have under 200 calories each?! After chewing on it for a while (pun intended!), I decided there wasnt a single reason why this book shouldnt existand so here it is.
SWEET! I hope you love it as much as I do For the newbies out there, Hungry Girl is a lifestyle brand that started as a free daily email service about guilt-free eating. The emails (read by over a million people a day) feature news, food finds, recipes, and real-world tips & survival strategies. Hungry Girl was started by me, Lisa Lillien. Im not a doctor or nutrition professional; Im just hungry! Back in 2004, I decided I wanted to share my love and knowledge of guilt-free eating with the world, so Hungry Girl was born. To sign up for the daily emails or to see what youve missed since the beginning, go to hungry-girl.com . The Hungry Girl way of eating is a bridge between the average American junk-food-packed diet and the idealistic way of eating perfectly healthy foods at all times.
Its a realistic approach to better-for-you eating that people can actually live with and feel good about. HG recipes fulfill real-world cravings for EVERYTHINGincluding fattening foods like cheesecake, brownies, and fudgewithout containing a tremendous amount of calories and fat. The recipes in this book often call for simple supermarket staples, like boxed cake mix. Thats so anyone can easily make them. Yes, some of these products are processed. Incorporating these ingredients into HG recipes helps cut out the excessive calories and fat in the indulgent desserts you crave.
And we believe that eating these things in moderation can help you achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Maybe the next time youre about to sink your teeth into a Texas-sized frosted cupcake or jab your fork into a mountainous restaurant dessert, youll think about this book, head home, and whip up one of these desserts instead. Happy chewing! AWESOME FEATURE ALERT! Looking for recipes with five ingredients or less, single-serving desserts, or recipes that take 30 minutes or less? SWEETENER SWAPPIN! The 411 on Sugar Alternatives and No-Calorie Sweetener Alternatives * Some HG desserts call for Splenda No Calorie Sweetener (granulated) because it has around 90 percent fewer calories than sugar. We use real sugar in recipes when not much sweetener is needed or when the taste of real sugar makes a big difference. * Prefer one or the other across the board? There are nutritional stats for every recipe if made with the alternative! Just use the exact same amount when swapping sweeteners. The only recipes without the alternative stats are those in which using real sugar would push the calorie count over 200. * Wanna use natural no-calorie sweeteners in these recipes? Look for products that measure cup-for-cup like real sugar, not packeted products (which are generally much sweeter than sugar).
THE POWDERED PB NEED-TO-KNOW What is it? Defatted peanuts, finely ground into powder. Each tablespoon has around 25 calories and less than a gram of fat. Mixed with a little water, it doubles as peanut butter. Wow! Who makes it? Companies like Bell Plantation (PB2) and FitNutz. Where is it sold? Your best bet is to order some online, since its not easily found in stores. Check out bellplantation.com and fitnutzbutter.com.
