PRAISE FOR
Martha Pullens Southern Family Cookbook
Who are your people? is a question often uttered upon meeting a new acquaintance in the South, where family is life and stories about family, faith, and food are a treasured heritage. Authors Dr. Martha Campbell Pullen and Suzanne Crocker have given readers a gracious invitation to get to know their people through this book while drawing a blueprint for family history documentation: recording stories of family heritage and faith and creating family memories through cherished recipes. Readers will find themselves taking a stroll down memory lane as they read and cook, remembering their own family food heritage or resolving to create one. These easy-to-prepare recipes could easily become favorites of your family, resulting in that annual discussion at the Thanksgiving table years from now about how Mamas dressing is the best.

Every cookbook should be more than pages filled with great recipes. It should be filled with recipes that bring to mind your favorite memory of your grandmother as she picked the fruit from the trees to make your favorite dessert, or your mother when she made your favorite birthday dinner. That is exactly what Marthas must-have cookbook gives to each of you: a much loved recipe, a treasured memory, and a time to spend in the heart of the home with loved ones while you both cook your meals and share them.

I am sew excited about Marthas new cookbook! Herb and I have visited Martha and Joes home and they are wonderful hosts and serve fabulous food! It will be wonderful to have all her favorite recipes at my fingertips! On my first visit to Marthas home I had never heard of Chess Pie. Two slices later I was on a quest to find the recipe, and my Dad and I made it for every family occasion until his passing.

After thumbing through Marthas cookbook I found myself thinking about the many cookbooks and recipes my dad had given me from my grandmother who I never knew; however, when I would open them I could feel that we had some type of a connection through them. The many hours that Martha and Suzanne have spent compiling these recipes is truly an inspiration to all of us; it feeds our bodies, minds, and souls to overflowing. It will bring tears of joy to your eyes as you read the stories of their journey to this place in their lives and know we will feast at the eternal table forever. I love you Martha and thank you for all you have given us.

Martha has amassed a business empire worthy of the biggest mogul. She has amassed that empire because she practices what she preachesshe lives her life and conducts her business by staying true to the Christian principles that have guided her family for generations. Through her personal recollections, we are able to see what makes a great cook, a great hostess, a great mother, and a great business womanits her ability to find joy in the simple things like a good meal, her adherence to the Christian principles that she lives by, and her willingness to share her knowledge and experience with others. INTRODUCTION
The cooking members of my family have a lot in common with Jesus. Jesus gathered around the table with all sorts of people. The New Testament in the Bible tells about Jesus eating with tax collectors, sinners, drunkards, and gluttons. He shared meals with people from all walks of life, with both the poor and the wealthy. When a crowd followed him to a mountainside and listened to him all day, he wasnt willing to send them away hungry. He took a small boys lunch, blessed it, broke it into pieces, and fed 5,000 men and a large number of women and children. Jesus loved to use mealtimes to teach and tell stories. Jesus celebrated and enjoyed feasts.
