Dedication
I would like to dedicate this book to my loving wife and son, who put up with me. I would not be the man I am today without them.
W HAT IS SURVIVAL? IN the most basic definition, it is simplyto continue living. I hear sentiments like this all the time: I have plenty of time or If something is coming our way, Ill go buy what I need from the store.
Well, consider these scenarios:
One
A hurricane moving along the coast, is supposed to pass you by, but at the last minute, it changes course and heads straight for you.
Two
You dont live in an earthquake area, but an earthquake on a major fault line makes your area unstable and you have to evacuate your home.
Three
An F5 Finger of God tornado hits your town. Total destruction.
Four
A freak weather system hits your area and dumps five feet of snow or ice on you in the middle of summer, while you are living in areas this does not even happen in winter.
All of these scenarios have the potential for disaster for the unprepared. They could happen to any person at any time. If you dont prepare before a disaster happens, then you are already too late.
Learn Now. Survive Later.
What is a prepper? Its a person who prepares for emergencies and disasters by stocking up on various supplies.
If by some chance you are, or decide to become a prepper, there are a number of websites and groups that exist to help you. Just remember that your reason for prepping is not relevant to learning.
Also, understand that there are different styles of prepping and different prepper mentalities. All preppers are not the same. Some people may be preparing for the end of the world as we know it. Others may simply be readying for the next blizzard or potential natural disasters. Having different emergencies in mind than another person does not mean you cannot learn and prepare for your needs.
As a survivalist, actually, as a prepared personI carry a knife, a ferro rod, and a lightereverywhere I go. I have carried a knife and lighter with me since I was ten years old. As I got older, I discovered ferro rods and began carrying one inside a tube with a piece of cotton, because sometimes a lighter just wont start a fire.
I actually recommend that everyone carry a knife and a means to start a fire at all times.
As an additional, useful item, I replace all of my shoestrings with 550 paracord. That provides me with more durable shoestrings as well as added cordage.
I cannot stress enough the importance of carrying a good blade, multiple ways to start a fire, and extra cordage. These will absolutely help you in survival situations, as well as in surprisingly everyday situations. I promise.
Make no mistake, this book is about surviving in the wilderness with little to nothing and with emphasis on preparation.
I N NATURE, YOU CAN find everything you need to survive. You just need to learn where to look in order to find it.
There is no way I can include all of the information I have obtained in a lifetime in one book, but I am going to give you enough to be able to survive.
After reading this, you should always continue learning, so you acquire more knowledge and skills.
Most of you have heard about the rule of three. In survival, it means you should be able to survive:
