Introduction

So you have decided to get a puppy! That's wonderful. Of course, you must know that it isn't going to be just as easy as pie. They don't come with instruction manuals and cannot speak English. Why I Wrote This Book

I wrote this book because I feel like it's important to help people who want to adopt a puppy to stay informed about how they should treat it. It is easy to get overwhelmed by the new responsibilities of having a puppy that you don't know how to communicate with, especially when it seems that they have a strong will of their own. They may seem to openly defy you, but the truth is that they just don't understand their responsibilities and obligations yet. I am upset whenever I see people lose their tempers toward animals, because if they could just understand where they are communicating ineffectively, they can save themselves a lot of stress and their puppies a lot of fear when they are misunderstanding what is expected of them.

I want to help to eliminate the miscommunications between people and animals, especially when that means that the animals could become hurt or scared and lose trust and respect in the people who they should feel safe with. Unfortunately there is no way to eliminate all the needless suffering in the world, but there is a good opportunity to learn how to communicate so that people will be able to avoid any problems they might encounter when training their puppy. This will make your house a home and you will be able to avoid making mistakes that may end up traumatizing your new little friend and open the doors to creating a very lasting bond that will provide great companionship between you and your dog for years to come.

What You Need To Know Before Reading This Book

Before you read this book you need to understand that puppies and people are not the same thing. You can't expect them to come right to your house from being torn from their mothers and adjust perfectly right away. They don't speak English, they don't know what you want them to do, and they don't automatically know that you are their pack leader. You have to let them know what they need to do, and you can do that easily and quickly with the right know how.

It's important to become aware of how you can communicate with your dog. It's difficult to bring a new friend into your family without knowing how to communicate. Many people just get puppies because they are cute and make good companions because they are so willing to provide you with unconditional love. They deserve to have a great life with the people who choose them, and it should be in their best interest to come to your home.

That means that you will have to be prepared to remind yourself as you train your puppy that they don't speak English, they don't know what is socially proper or what you want them to do, and as soon as they figure it out they are eager to please and follow instructions.

You should never, under any circumstances, physically injure your dog. Even if you are frustrated, just take a deep breath and remove yourself briefly from the situation. Walk into another room until you calm down and deal with your puppy with a fresh new outlook. Remind yourself that everybody has a hard time when they are frustrated, and your puppy is just doing what it thinks you want it to do, and if not it is just doing what is natural to it. We don't understand puppy actions any more easily than they understand ours, and even if something seems to make sense to us and seems simple, for them it is totally different.
