Praise forHands-On Health for Vibrant Living Susan Brooks is one of those magical teachers that can change ones life. She presented a 3-day class at Jin Shin Institute in New York and the students, including myself, had such a wonderful learning experience, gaining new simple insights to the Art. With her passion and expertise, Susan is able to distill the essence of Jin Shin Jyutsu and present it in an easy and clear way. Hands on Health for Vibrant Living is a guide to hands-on self-care for everyone! Alexis Brink, Director Jin Shin Institute, best-selling author of The Art of Jin Shin For better health and vibrant living, follow Susan Brooks clear guidelines for Jin Shin Jyutsu self-help. Trust me, if you do this for yourself 15 minutes every day it will change your life for the better forever. The women Susan worked with, who begged for her to write this book, obviously understood how much this practice was helping them.

Judy Andry, M. Ed., Guidance Counselor and author of A Touching Good-Bye: The Gentle Use of Jin Shin Jyutsu At Times of Critical Illness Some 30-plus years ago, Susan changed my life by teaching me Jin Shin Jyutsu self-help techniques. Some of the techniques I use every day, and others come into play only when certain bodyor mindissues present themselves. Susans positivity informs her work; it is impossible not to catch that healing bug from her. I will always be grateful for the tools with which she empowered me at the end of my Mothers life, and for the powerful workshops she presented to Colorados hospice caregivers during several statewide conferences. Al J.

Canner, former Executive Director of the Colorado Hospice Organization, attorney, law school professor, fiber artist, and hospice ethics committee chair Having survived twelve surgeries for breast cancer and a lifetime of sports injuries I am so grateful to have met Susan Brooksthe one who works magic with her hands. She introduced me to a combination of Jin Shin Jyutsu and gentle yoga. Taking private and group sessions plus using Hands On Health for Vibrant Living has given me a simple and effective step by step practice for self-care when my body is in need of nurturing. Debra Livingston, cancer survivor My daughter continues to do the the daily self-help JSJ practice you taught her, which remains one of her strongest tools for helping her through this journey. Melinda Hall, CO (daughter diagnosed with leukemia as a teenager; has graduated from college and is now cancer-free) I deeply appreciate the peace, balance, and the stillness self-care that JSJ brings me. and drank more water, like the good patient I am. and drank more water, like the good patient I am.

I felt the physical shift, I went to bed and had the first good nights sleep in weeks. No pain, no roll over. It felt miraculous. Anne Birmingham, NY I am filled with joy, laughing from how much JSJ I have learned, how much it has helped, and how little I still know. Christine Baier, CO The self-care JSJ protocol you suggested I still practice daily, and was a critical gift in my divorce recovery. Diane OReilly, CO

Merritt Book design: Nick Zelinger, NZGraphics.com ISBN: 978-1-7329714-0-0 LCCN: 2019911895 First Edition Second Printing Tribute Hands-on Health for Vibrant Living is a guidebook inspired by and dedicated to the women at the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, with whom Ive had the privilege of sharing hands-on health for several years. The women asked me for a book they could use at bedtime to practice what theyd learned and to put in their backpacks and take with them in their daily liveswhether walking the streets, at work, riding the bus to a job interview, or at a coffee shop.

To create a safe and supportive environment for the residents, the shelter is an established no-touch facility, disallowing any physical contact with one another, including kissing, hand holding, and even hugging. Because of this policy, the shelter is an ideal place for practicing self-care hands-on health, empowering the women to learn ways to contribute to their wellness. The women range in age from teenagers to eighty years old and are courageous, bright, and diverse with a high degree of motivation to learn these simple life-changing practices that are easy to use. The stories the women have imparted about their daily living or what led them to homelessness are heart wrenching, and include neglect, abuse, sexual assault, prison time, chronic illness, addictions, mental illness, accidents, losing custody of their children, and death of loved ones. On several Monday evenings each year during the cold-weather season that the shelter is open, the women sit together quietly in a circle. Each woman shares her first name and most pressing health need.

I then demonstrate to her and the group one or two combinations of light touches to apply to specific places on her body to address that need. I encourage the other women in the circle to do the same sequences, and to focus on directing healing energy to that woman. We continue around the circle, listening to and guiding each person. The hour together ends with a guided sequence of the Main Central Source flow (see pages 31-34), bringing calmness and relaxation to the women as they head off to bed. This guidebook is for anyone to utilize, whether in a life transition or wanting to establish a simple, daily self-care practice that enhances health, vitality and a more hopeful outlook on life. Striving for balance often seems unrealistic and unattainable.

However hands-on health exercises nurture resilience, supporting a quicker recovery from setbacks and building more sustainable foundational health. With deep gratitude to the women of the homeless shelter, I invite you to learn the self-care basics as presented here and to choose a few of your favorites to practice daily. Share with your friends and family and especially with those who do not have access to regular health-care. Discover the key to enhanced well-being and happiness, regardless of life circumstances.
