First Printing, 2021 Decarboxylation (Must Read) If youre lucky enough to have a cannabis store near you, you might have noticed some edible goods filled with cannabis. They may seem like a good idea to get your dose of THC and CBD on the go but they are filled with sugar and unhealthy ingredients. The best way to consume edibles is to make them yourself. Im guessing thats why you bought this book.
My other guess is this was a present because everyone knows you are a stoner. No matter the case, let me guide you into the world of cooking with cannabis, where you will learn to cook anything with cannabis. From brownies, to turkeys, to smoothies, to cocktails, to peanut butter and even your morning teas. So come with me and lets get high as f*ck and cook obviously. Before we start cooking you need to understand the most important part about cooking with cannabis, decarboxylation. Dont try and say this word if youre high.
In order for your cannabis to become activated it needs to be heated at a temperature that isnt possible in the human digestive system. In much simpler terms, your stomach isnt hot enough for your cannabis to get activated. So you must heat it beforehand so the components in your cannabis activate, so when you eat it you get high as f*ck. The only downside of decarboxylation is that the beautiful aromas of your strain will be lost during this process. But the positive is that you will get high as f*ck eating a delicious brownie. You could add some raw strains in your food if you want that extra taste and smell but you will be wasting weed.
The Decarboxylation Process I am going to explain to you in the most basic way how decarboxylation works. There are two types of compounds found in cannabis. THC and CBD. CBD is a compound in cannabis that helps with anxiety, depression, stress and all of those horrible conditions. THC on the other hand is the compound that gets you f*cked up. This is the compound that gives you all the dopamine release and psychoactive effects.
The strength of THC and CBD in certain cannabis depends on the strain, harvesting conditions and storage. Some strains might have 17% THC while others might have 25% THC. When you buy your cannabis raw there are two compounds THCA and CBDA. We need to heat up our cannabis (Decarboxylate) it in order to get rid of that extra A and make it THC and CBD. This is why we light a blunt and we dont just eat our cannabis raw. THCA is non-psychoactive meaning it wont get you f*cked up.
In fact, it wont do anything. If you want to add cannabis to your edibles, you must turn that THCA into THC by decarboxylating it. Turning CBDA into CBD will not give you psychoactive effects since CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabidiol. It is mostly used for treating seizure disorders. It also lowers blood sugar which is great for treating diabetes. It can also treat stress related and seeping disorders.
How to Decarboxylate Cannabis Forewarning: There will be a very strong odor of cannabis during this process. 1. First you must pre-heat your oven to 235 F or 112 C. 2. While your oven is pre-heating, grab your oven tray and place a sheet of parchment paper on top. 3.
Then, take your cannabis buds and carefully break them into small pieces by hand on the parchment paper. Make sure your cannabis is close together but not stacked on top of each other. (When cooking you want to heat the cannabis evenly) 4. Add a sheet of aluminium foil on top and seal it. 5. Place your cannabis filled tray in the oven once your oven has preheated and cook for roughly 30-40 minutes.
The cooking time depends on the strain you have, the potency and if its main component is THC or CBD. (CBD strains tend to take longer to cook). 6. Wait for your THC activated cannabis to cool down and store it in a cool, dry place. An airtight container such as a mason jar works best.
Grab yourself a heavy saucepan and pour your canola or extra virgin oil into the saucepan. 2. Start heating the cooking oil on low heat for a few minutes until you start to smell the beautiful aroma of the oil. 3. Then, take a small pinch of your finely ground cannabis and add it to the heavy saucepan while stirring. Keep going until your cannabis is fully coated with oil.
Keep adding pinches of cannabis slowly and consistently until all your cannabis is mixed with the oil. 4. Leave your saucepan to simmer on low heat for a total of 45 minutes. Make sure you stir occasionally. 5. 6. 6.
Once cooled, strain your cannabis infused cooking oil with a metal strainer and make sure you press it with the back of a spoon to get the most out of cooking oil. 7. Store your canna oil in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Your canna oil is now ready and can last for up to 2 months in the refrigerator. Never use your cannabis infused oil for frying. You will just burn all your cannabis! Cannabis Infused Butter Equipment Metal Strainer 2 Pieces of Cheesecloth Airtight Container Ingredients Ounce of Decarboxylated Cannabis 1 Pound of Butter 4 Cups of Water Instructions 1.
Cut up your butter into several pieces and add it to your pan along with your water and decarboxylated cannabis. 2. Place your pan over low heat. Make sure the mixture never reaches boiling point, only simmer. 3. Leave the pan on low heat for 3-4 hours and stir gently every 30 minutes.
Look out for your mixture. Dont let it get too thick since your mixture will naturally thicken as the water gets cooked off. (As a guide, your cannabis should float about 2 inches above the base of your pan. It should not touch the bottom. If it does make sure to add a little more water) 4. 5. 5.
While the mixture is cooling you can prepare the metal colander with two layers of cheesecloth on top. This will give it an extra layer to filter your cannabutter and make it as pure as possible. 6. When your canna-butter has cooled down, pour it into the cheesecloth and metal strainer. Make sure you have a bowl under to collect the filtered cannabutter. 7. 7.
Place your bowl of canna-butter in the refrigerator for 2 hours. This should give it enough time to solidify. 8. Once solidified, run a knife around the edges of your bowl to separate your butter. Bring out your metal strainer again and pour your solidified butter into it in order for the excess water to get separated from the canna-butter. 9.
Store your finished canna-butter in an airtight container and in the fridge. Its best to use your butter as soon as possible. I recommend you use your canna-butter immediately. Do not store it in your fridge for more than 4 weeks. Cannabis Infused Coconut Oil Equipment Double Boiler Cooking Twine Cheesecloth Ingredients Ounce of Cannabis 1 Cup of Organic Coconut Oil Instructions 1. Lay out your cheesecloth out and distribute your decarboxylated cannabis evenly in the middle of the cheesecloth.
Make sure your cannabis is broken up into little pieces. 2. Fold in the ends of the cheesecloth, tuck and roll in order to create a cheesecloth burrito filled with cannabis. (From now on we will call this creation the burrito). 3. Tie your cannabis cheesecloth burrito with cooking twine and make sure it is tightly sealed.
You dont want your cannabis escaping. (Make sure your cheesecloth burrito fits in your double boiler) 4. Add a few inches of water to the bottom pan of your double boiler without it reaching the top pan and place your double boiler on a medium heat to gentle boil. DO NOT let the water come to a rolling boil. 5. 6. 6.
