Monsters are everywhere. Romantic teen stories turn to scenes of vampires or werewolves ( Twilight Saga series, 20058). A cartoon movie for kids, featuring the classic nerd misfit and his dog, ends up being a redo of the Frankenstein saga ( Frankenweenie , 2012). And there is an absolute fixation on the zombie (usually with an apocalyptic backdrop). The AMC series The Walking Dead , first shown in 2010, is based on a comic book. On the screen, it interlaces melodramas and conflicts of survivors of an apocalyptic event, with confronting and smashing the skulls of mindless zombies.
