About the Author
Robert W. Klinoff is a California Certified Chief Officer, National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer, and retired Chief Deputy Fire Chief with the Kern County Fire Department. He is a 35-year fire service veteran. His background includes experience as a fire fighter while a student at Columbia College, as an Emergency Medical Technician, as a fire fighter with the U.S. Forest Service, as a fire fighter with the City of San Gabriel, California, and 29 years with the Kern County Fire Department. He has served the Kern County Fire Department in Operations and as a Training Officer and Fire Marshal.
His education includes an associate of science degree in Fire Science from Columbia College and a bachelors degree in Occupational StudiesVocational Arts from California State University Long Beach. He is a California State Fire Service Training and Education Systemcertified Chief Officer, Master Instructor, Movie and Television Fire Safety Officer, and Hazardous Materials Specialist. As an instructor for the State of California, he teaches both Company Officer- and Chief Officer-level courses. He also serves as adjunct faculty for the National Fire Academy, teaching Infection Control for Emergency Response Personnel, Managing Company Tactical Operations, and Chemistry of Hazardous Materials.
Robert has further served his community as the president of the Kern SAFE Coalition, an agency dedicated to childhood injury prevention. He is a National Fire Protection Association Risk Watch Champion and a National Highway Traffic Safety Administrationcertified Child Passenger Safety Technician/Instructor.
Under the National Interagency Incident Qualifications System, he is certified as an Incident Commander, Safety Officer, Division Supervisor, and Strike Team/Task Force Leader. Robert served as a Safety Officer on California Interagency Management Teams. He and the team responded to the Pentagon incident on September 11, 2001, as well as numerous other major incidents throughout the country. As a result of the teams efforts at the Pentagon, they received the Group Honor Award for Excellence from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Robert continues to serve as a mentor for firefighters and firefighter candidates. He also remains a student of fire history, the future of the fire and rescue service, and fire department operations and administration.
