Its our privilege to be able to be a part of the Ratatouille world. These dishes will give us a peek into their world, their life, their food.
With this, lets try these delicious dishes for ourselves and our family members.
1. Remis famous pie for the heart
Remy is a unique character who doesnt only love food but has a distinct gift. Remy as a character has redefined the chefs world and has made us all wonder what the secret behind those beautiful lemon pies is. What if I told you, its time to unfold that beautiful unspoken secret? This is a satisfying lemon pie, and one can swear on its rich flavors and satisfying taste.
Ingredients:
For the pie crust
2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt.
1/2 cup ice water
The ready pie crust
3/4 cup chilled vegetable shortening
5 large egg yolks.
1 and 1/3 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon lemon zest
6 tablespoons chilled unsalted butter
2 tablespoons room temperature unsalted butter
For the Meringue
Serving size: 6
Cooking time: 1 hour
Instructions:
In a bowl, mix salt and flour together, and then add butter and shortening. Mix it well.
Add 1/2 cup of water and ice in a bowl and stir it. Use it to knead your dough.
After the dough is ready, divide the dough into two halves, and wrap them in plastic. Refrigerate it for 2 hours.
Preheat the oven to 375 F (190C) and bake your crust partially.
Reduce the oven heat to 350 F (177C).
In a separate bowl, add the egg yolks. Mix them well.
In a saucepan, mix water, sugar, cornstarch, lemon zest, and lemon juice, on medium heat. Once the mixture starts thickening, give it a nice whisk and reduce the heat to low.
Slowly mix the warm lemon mixture in the egg yolks kept aside.
Turn the heat to medium, and let the mixture cook until its thick and you can see the bubbles on the surface.
Once its cooked, you can remove the pan aside, and add butter to it.
Now, pour the beautiful filling in the previous half baked crust
Keep the crust and filling aside for a while, but dont let it cool down completely.
With the help of an electronic mixer, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar together, until it is soft and fluffy.
Add sugar and salt and give it a good mix.
Now, you can pour the meringue on top of your filling.
Bake the pie for 20-25 minutes.
2. Crepes to die for
A lot of people love crepes as a part of their breakfast, while some love them as an after dessert. Crepes give you that homely feeling after a long day of work. The best part about crepes is that it goes with different kinds of toppings, and one can choose it according to wish and taste. Remy and Linguinis relationship is just like the sweet and sour toppings of crepes. Even when they dont understand each other, they stick together. I would say they go together just like crepes and their toppings.
Ingredients:
Serving size: 4
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Instructions:
In a bowl, mix the flour and eggs.
Once mixed, slowly add in the water and milk, and mix them well.
Heat a pan on medium heat, and grease it with oil or butter.
Pour 1 scoop of batter gently into the pan.
You can either spread the mix like an Indian dosa or gently tilt the pan in a circular motion.
The batter must spread out evenly in the pan
Cook each crepe for about 2 minutes.
Once its light brown, flip the crepe to the other side, and let it cook as well.
When done, place it on a plate, and serve it with sliced strawberries, melted chocolate.
One can also serve it with some whipped cream and melted chocolate.
3. The classic la-ratatouille
La-ratatouille was a dream of Remy, which he never really knew was possible. The opening of the Parisian caf, La-ratatouille, became a reality only after he impressed the well-known food critic, Anton Ego. The very dish that won over the serious and egoistic, Anton Ego was the classic ratatouille. Ratatouille is a classic vegetarian dish with lots of veggies. Its a very famous French dish. Ratatouille was also, as we already know, adopted as the title for the movie Ratatouille, which came out in 2007.
