Introduction

As I go into my sixth year of navigating the ketogenic diet, I look back and reflect on the journey thus far. Ive seen what the ketogenic diet has done for so many people, and Im in awe. There are many resources and much more support nowadays than when I first started. When I mention keto, people know what Im talking about. There are keto specialty shops. Wow! I never thought Id see that happen.

I think of the many people Ive met and befriended because of this diet. I am thankful that it brings together a community of people looking for change, to better themselves, their lives, and the lives of others.

Im in great health, soon Ill be nine years cancer-free. And thats where I started, my why. I was looking to improve my health somehow when I stumbled upon a Reddit post about the keto diet, and my life has changed since.

Ive cooked up a storm, experimenting in the kitchen. I wrote this second cookbook while playing around with recipes and sharing my love of food. The inspiration for this cookbook came when I observed that many mass-produced sauces and dressings have ingredients, such as high-fructose corn syrup, other sugars, and starches, that are counterproductive to the ketogenic diet. It inspired me to go back to basics and learn how to make my own mayonnaise, choosing what goes in it.

For many, the keto diet has similarly entailed moving away from manufactured and processed foods and moving toward more wholesome, home-cooked meals. This is a big step; Ive met numerous keto dieters who had never cooked a meal prior to embarking on the keto diet. Inexperience coupled with limited time on a busy schedule can make creating meals with a variety of flavors challenging.

For myself, living in multicultural Vancouver, BC, Ive been fortunate to be surrounded by cuisines from varying cultures. This ketogenic condiment, sauces, and rubs cookbook combines my love of food and flavors with the keto diet. Rubs that excite taste buds and sauces that not only add another dimension of flavor but can also aid in fat supplementation. This cookbook will encourage you to try different flavors and experiment by creating some of your own while enjoying the keto diet.

My journey is certainly not over, and I cant wait to see what the future brings. Until then Ill be off in the corner, smoking a brisket and beef ribs with some butter.

If youve been thinking of starting the ketogenic diet, now is the best time. Youll be glad you did and will be looking back months from now thanking yourself.
